I signed one concerned with restricting photography in public places and in due course received a reply that in this case there were no plans to introduce such restrictions. I felt that someone had looked at the topic and given me an answer. So to me, there had been a moment of dialogue on an issue I was interested in.
I *do* have a sense of humour, but like RR I regret the silly ones as they [a] dilute ones on serious issues and [b] offer the perfect get-out for anybody in authority needing to actually take some proper notice; along the lines of "...oh, the petitions site - that's just for silly people to muck about on. No need to take anything there seriously..."
