You've only got to ingest water through the air intake and its VERY expensive...even a new engine. To say that diesels are safer than petrol is complete rubbish!!
Pay attention at the back - I HAD to drive through water, not by choice, to get home.

Therefore I was asking, given at the time the flood waters were still rising, how high the water can be before I'm likely to get into trouble & what is the best approach to getting my Civic through successfully.

I am trying to avoid joining the ranks of people with shafted cars while still being able to get around to/from work etc.

Thanks for the warning but sometimes you don't have a choice as I am sure many of your fellow Yorkshiremen already know or are now discovering.
