I have foglight covers and on the driver side my cover got a huge chip and has damaged seriously but the glass survived thanks to the cover!
so answering your question: YES!! there are lot of stones flying around unfortunately!
and in my view the reason why the fogs brake:
-they are big(surface)
-they or placed on a "dangerous" place (low on the side.. just in front of the wheels of the car driving in front of us)
-glass is (might be) thin
ps.: I strongly recommend to buy gray52 covers! it has def. saved my fog!
