Tell that to a mate of mine at work. Drove his Pug 307 HDi through about a foot of water and came to an abrupt halt. Estimate says complete new engine due to bent rods and popped bearing caps......
There is so little space in the cylinder at TDC on a diesel that it only takes a small amount of water and you get 'Hydroloc'. Couple that with the modern tendency to have air intakes set fairly low for aerodynamic reasons (You can see the intercooler on the Accord through the intake next to the nearside foglight) and it's only a matter of time....
