I had a similar problem with my last car, where I scuffed the leather (luckily at the bottom of the steering wheel, where it was less noticeable.)

You could try covering up the lighter bits with black shoe polish - not too much though, you don't want to make the wheel too shiny and/or slippery.

Obviously this technique won't work if the scratches are too deep, although it might disguise it a bit.
