June 22:
A date that has haunted me for weeks....
I was at the hospital that morning to see a surgeon for a pre-operative assesment and despite my appointment being at 9:30am and supposedly only for an hour to an hour and a half tops I waited nearly three hours (2 hours past when I'd told my boss I'd be back!). When I'd seen the surgeon, fresh from a urgent patient in A&E, I jumped in the horrid car (a Vauxhall Corshit 1.2) and made my foot to the floor dash to work before the boss sacked me....
Skip forward a week and a bit....
Get home and do the usual check the post....notice one for the wife (cars in her name)... open it up and lo and behold it's a NOP (Notice of Intended Prosecution). Suffice to say I thought "bugger".....
Anyway, wife comes home and I fess up and she duly (given that she works for the Met) dobs me in.
Skip forward another week and a bit and the NOP arrives in my name.....
Now being that this is the first time I've ever been done for speeding and not knowing what to expect I feared the worst and investigated what I was up against (for being 39 in a 30mph road) and if there was any hope of getting off....
A few websites later I had come to the conclusion I had three options:
1. Admit the offence and not sign (upside that someone had got off with the downside being it could go straight to court for obstruction).
2. Hire a solicitor (again maybe get off maybe get a huge fine and more points and have to pay solicitor)
3. Fess up completely and take the punishment.
I chose option 3.
And well, after a few weeks of worry I got the end result of my wrongdoing....
£73 for a Speed Awareness Workshop and a clean licence.
Let me tell you - I know I'm extremly lucky and have adjusted my driving since I even got the first notice. And I'd say to anyone - don't try and be clever..... Any trick you try to pull to get off will more often than not end up as a red rag to a very powerful bull........
