newbie

hi. I'm new here so forgive me if I'm doing anything wrong!
firstly I'd like to say how grateful I am for sites like this where people can share knowledge on specific vehicles which leads me into my secondly! after owning my 2012 civic 2.2 idtec for 1 year and loving it and having no problems whatsoever i got into the car today and on starting the engine I had a checksystem message appear!! I've never seen that before so obviously I'm panicking! on my journey it felt like I had the engine but no turbo so I presume it was in limp mode??? buy then on the way back after it had been parked up for a while, even though the engine light and message where still there the car felt fine and actually quicker?!? now I'm away for a few days and I have to leave the car for my wife to use for work so what are people's thoughts?? has the problem fixed itself and the car will be ok to drive or is there an underlying fault?? I won't be able to get the code read until later in the week at the earliest and I don't want to risk any further damage..... what should i do??
thanks in advance
matt

I will have to call a local garage to get the code read unless there's a blink test I can do at home. I saw the how to on here but the pics of the rev counter and the fuse box didn't match my vehicle and so the hole that the silver foil goes in wouldn't be the correct one

thanks for the replies.
I don't have these things and I don't know what they are, I'm off to London tomorrow for a couple of days but I'm going to take the car and have the codes read early morning for piece of mind.. my wife has been using the car today whilst I've been at work and although the code light is still on she says it's driving fine?!?! I'm hoping it was just a niggle but I won't know till I've had the code read/deleted thanks again for the replies

Get an OBD dongle with a built in on/off switch. Then you can leave it plugged in without adding a slow drain to your battery.

If you have an iPhone then you'll need a WiFi rather than Bluetooth dongle

hi guys
right so here's where I am..... took the car to have the code read/deleted! 1 code stored :excessive exhaust temp: my mechanic assured me it was the dpf choked up and backing up so it needs a long run to allow it to regenerate. he took the code off, and the car is still driving like a dream.i also asked him about the lack of turbo when the code first popped up and he said that it would have been in limp home mode so all in all I'm happy and relieved. going to take a run on the m1 this weekend to give the process a good chance to happen....
thanks
matt
