Was looking to see what Frankfurt will be showing and what to expect
in the showrooms for a new car next year.

All I can say is bye bye Civic, hello FT-86........if safety regulations don't ruin the profile & shape of the front end!

Now we're talking, lol. Car isn't even for sale yet and we're modding it. There is no hope for our poor savings accounts.

This is imho what Honda missed this time. From the last Civic to this, the "future" paradigm has shifted. In 2005 this "modding" the car pre release could have happened, the tech was already there, but nobody did actually do it. Now it is common sense and i would've been surprised not to find people photoshopping the images as soon as they came out.
So this "new" Civic may be a fantastic new drive and eco savvy and everything, but it has not got the "impulse" the previous had. Honda as to sell, but not to the point of selling out.
The design is somewhat dated, the previous was timeless. I would have espected a less mass-adapted design and a connected car, with maybe a dedicated sim slot that could've done all of the possible things, calling the emergency when necessary, posting mileage, veichle conditions and fuel consumption online...talking with Honda hq to actually check the car on the web.
It could be a right choice for europe, but not for the sportier/techier/younger at heart like the prev. model. But then again, maybe Honda needs a new Ceo.

this a complete fail for me.
it's very ugly. no advance in the design. It's a seat ibiza style front. The back is much more retro than the 8th civic.

Reserve judgement until I see it in the 'metal', photos don't always give a good impression - and i'll wait a year or two to see if they have 'fixed' the niggling bits and pieces!

You could change the badge on the rear to Volvo and get away with it.

Not a big fan of this new model. It has to have the "WOW" factor the first time I look at it and this one failed

I like it as an evolution, except:

1. Too much exterior plastic, especially on the front - I don't find an exterior plastic bodykit acceptable on a car at all nowadays - even the Fiesta is colour coded on many models for heaven's sake!

2. Not keen on the instruments / interior. Been lifted straight from the CRZ I think. Too many dials. I preferred the simplicity of the current arrangement with one central dial and 2 x 1/2 dial displays for temp and fuel with no cowls.

Honda Civic (2011) at Frankfurt motor show | Automotive & Motoring News | Car Magazine Online
Unlikely, as it won't pass the euro emission regs. And no one will pay the extra few thousand quid they'll need to slap on it to cover the costs of breaking them.

Could anyone who was at the show confirm whether they'll be a Type R or not?

As I said before, Honda are going to be losing a lot of customers if they go the eco route at the expense of performance and these comments seem to re-inforce that!

It's part electric!

2013 Focus RS with 380bhp confirmed

Obviously you haven't been reading ahead. Many of the next generation models from many manufacturers are going to be eco performance with lower than current non performance models CO2 emissions yet high performance.

I can't comment on the Focus but Porsche's 918 model is to have emission of only 70g co2 and a claimed 94mpg. That's less than a Prius or insight!

The same with Jaguar's performance model.

..and there are rumoured to be others. Performance has just become more eco than eco cars which kind of scuppers arguments made by Honda against performance models.

New civic looks like crap. Only positive about it is led strips on the front. There is so much i liked in previous version and they changed them all. If i ever give up my R next car will not be civic anymore.
