The paint is so much better on the 9G. I have done 3000+ miles in mine and not one stone chip Also other 9G owners have said the same.

When I got my 8G within 50 miles I had stone chips

I've seen at least a dozen new civic's in Belgrade (Serbia) in the past month, a couple in polished metal metallic, a couple in black, one milano red, one white, and so on...

I was suprised it's doing that well having in mind the styling is totally awkward...

However, the prices are very competitive here. For example, 1.8 petrol MT Sport (which is the British ES-T, I believe) is a just above 17.500 EUR, which is a lot cheaper than in UK.

Actually that brings up an interesting point. Could it be it's more popular in Europe than the UK so many are being exported?

That would explain the ramp in production whilst there are still very few on British roads.

I do see them on trailers on the M25 heading down to Southampton.

Considering I'm only only the M25 for about 15 minutes I probably only see a fraction of them.

I travel on the west side of the M25 quite regularly and often see Civic's and CRV's on the trailers heading south, as well.

I've seen loads of 9g cars. Progressively more over the months.

A lot cheaper then anywhere in west europe. But then again, i bought mine on leasing with 1.9 interest rate with included 5 year guarantee and with no deposit, so basically in Switzerland buying honda's vehicles is really budget effective. In Serbia you have to pay everything in cash or with enormous interest rate so I presume that is one of reasons for good price. Not to mention average salary of couple hundred euros.

The report says 60% of Swindons production is exported.

Think about it.... Only 60% in Europe considering its size that is not too much... 40% is a lot into the Uk! Must be selling or they are hiding them under the carpet lol

Of course they are are selling... It's just some people don't want to accept their 8g is now an old model

Australia and New Zealand also get a small amount of the Civic hatches.

Only people who suffer with Reg snobbery have this problem. Some people have to have new and believe it has to be better which is often the case but not always.

I’ve read people saying ‘my car is old at 4 years’. Trust me in the real world out from the south east of England this isn’t an old car. My 8g Civ is 5 years old but it’ll be the best looking example of a 8g Civic and I have no problem with that. I had my last car 306 D Turbo for 10 years it was garaged and in mint condition. I didn’t look at new cars and thought oh my car is old I was proud it was older and in the condition it was in.

9g buyers seem to think everyone with a 8g hates the 9g has it makes their car feel old well I could give a toss as I said above. I don’t like the 9g because it’s ugly (in my opinion) I don’t like the 7g either because that’s ugly. BUT everyone is different aren’t they so each to their own. I’ll probably be branded a ‘hater’ stupid word for something I don’t like. Well I don’t like broccoli either so broccoli manufactures the world over can call me a hater too.

I really pleased to hear of the investment in Swindon British Jobs being protected for once – great news. I hope the 9g sells to keep these jobs too but I won’t be buying one.

Yep, you've got a point there. The Honda warranty in Serbia is 3 yrs/100.000 km, whereas Toyota and Nissan give 5 years. Even VW and BMW come with 4 yrs warranty. However, there is no free servicing here. One has to pay 100-130 EUR on avarage every 10.000km just to keep the car in warranty.

I believe that low prices have to do with the dealers giving away their profits just to make the sale, and then make money out of servicing/parts and labour.

TBH I don't care someone has a newer car than me, I couldn't afford to change anyway.

Nor do I think the 9 gen is a bad car, just not what quite what a lot of us would expect / want after the 8 gen and nothing that couldn't be fixed with a few tweeks delivering the best of both versions in a facelift.

Having found myself behind one waiting at a level crossing last week and not immediately recognising it as a Honda Civic, I agree. Its backside is a mess (in my opinion)!

Lol!

Not sure how you can comment seriously on ugly cars after admitting having a 306. Box on wheels comes to mind and French. Each to their own.

Not sure how you can comment seriously on ugly cars - Ditto! It was better looking than most being a 3 door. French yes but also made in England at the time.

Really.

So because it had 3 doors it was better looking than most

I only ever drive German and Japanese, for reliability and build quality. Btw, I've had 2 8th Gen Civics before the 9th Gen.

Wouldn't touch French with a barge pole!

306 was a smart looking well proportioned car for it's time. Not one of

What about French or German cars built in the UK?

I had the pleasure of a test drive yesterday with NH_Dan. The drive has confirmed my decision to get a 9G next year.

It is a very smooth, very competent car. I was expecting the suspension to be a bit sloppy being as it's fluid based but it still has the firmness to stop corner roll whilst damping the bumps extremely well.

I just found the car very easy and composed to drive as the steering and throttle seemed lighter than the 8G.

Having had a closer look though I can't make out how the centre console comes off to wire in a phone mount
No more exterior bolts/covers visible to remove but the carpet goes under the edges so it must be magic !

Glad you enjoyed the drive... I think a lot of assumptions are made about the 9g, but it's only when you drive it, you realise how good it is. Still handles and sticks to the road like the 8g, but without the crash and bangs.

I agree about the phone mounting options and if you did mount it next to the gear stick on the passenger side, it could snag with the glovebox (New one is wider).

God knows how you would remove the centre console... in fact the whole car is put together like that. No visible screws and rock solid... makes me not want to start pulling it apart and start a rattle lol
