You have a good point as pulling it to bits is not really a good answer.

I'm interested to see what phone mount options emerge.

Irrelevant imo. The parts are the same. They aren't going to be of lesser quality because it's been built in the UK.

Its not where they are built its the design and quality of the parts used.

What german cars are built/assembled in the uk? are there any?

You could argue Minis are basically German They have a lot of BMW bits.

Conversely, they make some BMW engines here in the UK...but they are mostly UK designed ones that have history in the old BMW:Rover tie up.

Plus I've heard the build quality of the Mini is not that good

To be honest i think the 9th Gen Civic is kinda on par with what Subaru did when they introduced the round headlighted Impreza when the previous Impreza looked pretty decent. (Its not as bad as that but you can see where im coming from i hope lol) people actually hated those headlights with a passion and i dont think it was too long until Subaru changed the headlights again on it.

Hell i even remember adverts in car magazines offering kits to change the headlights back to the previous models lol (which in itself i think required some front arch work or new arches i cant remember)

Some people hate the 9th gen looks some people hate the 8th gen looks but overall i suppose its what the actual owner of the car thinks and if they like the way it looks good on them

so out of those, three 'german' brands, two of which no one copuld or would argue about the quality of and one which is only vaguely german.(mini)

According to one dealer lol... Let's wait until we see the actual sales figures

They are probably selling more 'used' cars than new (so will more likely be the 8g) because of the economic climate. Less people are buying brand new cars because they either don't have the money and want something much cheaper or being cautious and holding onto their money...

All depends on what you define a 'hit' as.

22 this month by me alone, not to mention the 6 retail salesmen downstairs, i'd take that every month thanks.

Well I think its probably as I said above, it looks like it's regional. In some areas it seems they're selling and in others it appears that very few people are interested.

Overall, I wouldn't call that a success although obviously if you're in a dealership that's shifting them it is.

Indeed! You have to laugh at such naivety.

I think you mean "selling down south" because it's more affluent.

Plus there will be better deals to be had on the 8th gen now the 9th is on sale, people who have been waiting to snap up a good deal will be shopping around, I must admit I've considered it looking at the prices of some top spec 59, 60 plates

Imho the 9th Gen is a much better overall package than the top spec 8th Gen. I've had both, so I think I'm in a reasonable position to comment.

If it's all about the looks then the people who dislike the 9th Gens looks so vehemently should perhaps consider moving over to Alfa Romeo! Looks good but poor reliability.

Well it's definitely not selling well around here:

Had this letter today from one of the biggest Dealers in the country - 3 Honda Branches - we're 32 cars short of Hondas Target and so are opening up in a special event to sell off 9 gens to meet our targets.

You decide the price - no reasonable offer turned away.

Letter here with dealership details removed:
