Please could you tell me how to downloads these updates.

You can check what version you have by going [Home] > Settings > Android > Apps > Honda App Center

Make sure you have App Center version 1.3.4 or later.

You can quite easily update it by either tethering to you mobile phone or connecting to a fixed Wi-Fi and then starting App Center and going to "My Apps" where it will show updates available.

Can you use your phone as a portable hotspot through your mobile phone contract? thats what I done, tethered my phone to the headunit so the headunit uses my phone as a wifi connection.
Or can you park close enough to your home to connect the headunit to your home network?
Once you get the headunit connected the Honda app centre will prompt you to update the system.

1 of 2 options: connect the car to your home wifi and update via Honda App Center (this WONT give you the RC updates available from dealer only).
Or use your phone as a wifi hotspot. (android is settings > more (in 'wireless & network' section) > Mobile network sharing). best to make sure your on 3g or better to get reasonable speed.

i dont think the honda unit allows USB network sharing - has to be via a wifi method.

Sometimes I can see system update in the app centre. What is the difference between this system update and the dealer system update?

App centre updates apps only. Dealer update replaces the firmware on the head unit.

The app centre basically updates the grand total of 3 naff apps Honda thinks is acceptable in this day and age. Not quite App Store is it?

The strange thing is that I sometimes see 2 different updates. One is the app centre itself but the other one is called system update. That's why I am confused. I did not install any Honda app in the head unit and I don't have the NAV app.

you can think of the RC updates via dealer only as system updates on your phone (eg android4>5, 5>6 etc). Since no OTA/user side update is available, it's dealer only which they do via a USB stick. The RC updates should include a full system reset that will wipe any of your changes - wallpaper, radio presets, MPG figures etc

the Honda app center updates are like your android play store downloads; individual app update only.

there is a 'system tools' updates via HAC, but thats more likely an app signature/bug fix update. ie: since apps are locked down to Honda signatures, new app signatures get updated and this package is what validates them so need updating from time to time (just a guess on this one though)

mine was free. I got them to do it at service time but i went with the "it has a fault, MPG readout doesnt show previous drives with MPG auto-reset" to go from RC3 > RC4.
imo, it should be free either under the servicing cost or during warranty period.

Press [Home] > settings> Bluetooth/Wifi > Wifi > Wifi Device list.

You should find your phone in the available connections, if not hit Scan

Select your phone from the list and input it's wifi password.
