But there were lines in the road

Did you actually see a camera with its yellow and red stripes? Only reason for asking that is although there were lines on the road these are there for Mobile Speed Cameras which could pop up at anytime unannounce.

Simple way to avoid getting caught is stick to the speed limit (especially when the weather isn't good!) Everyone goes a bit wild now and again, but if in doubt stick to the limit and then you have no worries

Don't think there are any fixed cameras on that stretch, although it's a few months since I've been along there. There are also lines but no camera on the eastbound M 8, just east of the M 80 turn-off at Provan.

I know it's a different force area, but the Dumfies & Galloway camera locations (including mobile ones) can be found on the links here -
MiniWeb: Dumfries and Galloway Safety Camera Partnership

...word of warning - they aren't always where they say they'll be!
...which, to my mind, kind of defeats the object!

I know the very bit you are talking about and there are no cameras there.

I think the lines were left over from roadworks a few months back!

If you didn't notice whether or not there was a camera, perhaps you were driving too fast ?

I use this bit of road a lot and the above quote is correct, left over after the bridge repairs done earlier in the year

Or perhaps he was keeping his eyes on the road like he should be doing...

What do you look at when you drive?

A speed camera is usually mounted right beside the road. I'd have thought that anything that close to the road was worth looking for? What if it had been a person or an animal moving towards the road?

You'd be amazed by the amount of piles up that have been caused at a speed camera beside me on the A 1 because folk don't know the road, don't pay attention and when they realise after the flash they brake hard at and it all goes horribly wrong and they manage to take someone esle out with them. Last time a nice new Leon up the embankment because some idiot in his Merc did that.

Have to say it scary that people are clearly speeding when the wether is bad and they don't know the road. Its not big and ts not clever especially if you injure or kill someone. We don't like speed cameras but some are actually in places for a reason to stop accidents though they seem to aid to them sometimes

unless it's a specs maybe get someone to go along with a detector and see if it triggers anything, that would give you peace of mind maybe?

Just my little attempt at humour, Happyman.
I hope I will get away with it in the Christmas spirit of forgiveness.
