Been reading more rumours on the interweb about Universal and Paramount weighing up their options and considering going neutral or blu-exclusive. I will keep my fingers crossed.
My collection of Blu-Rays now total about 20, and to be honest I will never look back. For anybody who has not seen a film in HD, cast your mind back to how great DVDs looked in comparison to VHS. its the same difference again. I feel I have been spoiled, because I hate watching regular DVDs now, the just seem so un-sharp and constantly out of focus or something. Just horrible. It annoys me that i was happy with DVDs until now! I'm with CivPilot about MS. Being the main backer, I cannot really see them incorporating it. Possible if the HD DVD camp wave their white flag and give up, but it is still very unlikely. The other thing that makes this sound so unlikely to me is the fanboy factor. PS3 vs 360 is very similar BRD vs HD DVD. Both are ugly fights with childish 'fanboys' on both sides. Most X-box owners are very anti-PS3 and therefore anti Blu-Ray. The same is true that most PS3 owners are very anti MS and HD DVD. This would mean that there is going to be a very small customer base of 360 owners who will want a Blu-Ray add-on. |

I would be very surprised if that guy was not hauled over the coals about that statement. Think MS are still pushing, pushing, pushing thier 'baby' and then one of their own staff makes the comment that they might move to Blue ray. I ask you, as a consumer, would you honestly go "HD-DVD" after reading that statement? Ps. Have a 360 myself but thankfully never got involved in the 360 V PS3 war. Both consoles are superb and I will be going blue-Ray/PS3 some time this year to complement the 360. Currently the 360 just tips the scales for me based on the fact that most of my mates have one, the game selection is massive and the online side of things is so well established. |

Thart's no good in a quiet, tense part of a movie, and all you can hear is a load whring of fans in the background. It would drive me crazy.
And as Maldax says, the PS3 is whisper quiet, even if it has been on all day and night. It's a fantastic movie player. |

Paramount to make Blu-ray u-turn?
Paramount Studios is poised to drop its support of HD DVD format after Warner Bros studio said it would back the competing Blu-ray format, according to the Financial Times. The loss of Paramount would be a further blow to the Toshiba-backed HD DVD format following the move by Warner made at this year's CES. In August Paramount and DreamWorks said they would go exclusively with HD DVD, yet, according to the Financial Times, Paramount has a clause in its contract with the HD DVD camp that would allow it to change sides if Warner backed Blu-ray. |

That would only leave Universal supporting HD DVD. So looks like there is light at the end of the tunnel for those of us wanting Blue Ray disks that aren't available, like the Matrix and Star Trek.

I also saw on a CES post that Toshiba (co inventors of HD-DVD I believe) have no new HD players for the new year. Not suspicous at all!!!
Bother I have just bought a Toshiba TV and was looking forward to one remote for all....... I currently am borrowing my brother's PS3 and I found the fan still noisy (but not as loud as a PS2). It is an early one, so perhaps later ones are better. |

I take it you have never used an x-box 360. They make more noise than an industrial hoover!
If the PS3 is getting loud witht he cooling fans, I would suggest it is not well vented enough and is sucking the hot expelled air back in. Make sure it has lots of room above and to the sides. When I put mine in my cabinet, I plug in a USB pc fan to remove the building up hot air. |

Got a promotion email yesterday: Toshiba HD-DVD player with all the fancy stuff (1080p and 1080i), even ethernet-connection, and including 4 top movies: 149 euro.
Even for just the "classic" DVD upscaling to 1080, it 's worth the money. K. |

best news i heard from the ces show was BT are going to use the xbox360 as a set top box and thus allows more pay per view programing.
also many studios are now signing up to xboxlive to have download to rent movies which are HD. xboxlive is now the second biggest download service for programing only after itunes |

It is officially over now.
HD DVD backers Toshiba are stopping all production of HD DVD hardware, and are pulling out of the format completely. Both Paramount and Universal are expected to make an announcement by the end of the week about their move to Blu-ray. |
