Porsche 968 Club Sport (split from white wheels thread)

In 1993 I bought a new 968 Club Sport. Back then white with white wheels was odd, but not horrific. White wheels now seem to be the domain of cars that feature at barryboys.co.uk.

1993 Car of the year (Autocar), Performance car of the year (PCM, now Evo), Best handling car ever (Autocar in about 2001, IIRC).

Weighs the same as a Mini, but with 240 bhp.

Autocar:

Quote:
on the road the 968 Club Sport not only out-handles its closest rival, the Mazda RX7, but also every Ferrari, Lamborghini and even the Honda NSX. And it is because it has less grip that it is able to do so. On a track the Honda’s balance and adjustability would ensure it as clear a victory over the Club Sport as it did over the standard 968 at last year’s handling day. But to drive at the sort of speeds required to open the door to such talent on the public road is plain dangerous. Not so in the Porsche. Its door carries a large sign saying party, and it is flung wide open at every corner. The delicacy of the Club Sport is simply extraordinary. Its suspension may be nigh-on unchanged but with its lighter load it is now sufficiently firm to banish the excess body roll in faster curves that occasionally pollutes the responses of the stock 968. Every action is trained, keen as an arrow’s flight to the bullseye, providing you with driving enjoyment in its purest, most inspirational form. But underneath all this sophistication, the 968 is just a simple, old-fashioned sideways machine, flowing majestically into oversteer on your beckoning.

Pottsy, I nearly bought one of those myself only a couple of years back as a second 'weekend' car. Lovely motor!

I would have had one even if it had pink wheels, it was a super car, but at the time out of my price range.

I was going to post that I would have one even if it was as ugly and common as a Ford Focus, but then I didn't know how much TC could take...

I was lucky, it was a company car. I got it from new, and did 60,000 miles in it over 3 years. Wet roundabouts and long motorway off ramps were its speciality - you often used the side windows...

I wonder where it is now - only 179 were sold in the UK, so they are quite rare.

The one I looked at was in Aberdeen, unfortunately it didn't have the original wheels or the seats, which had been replaced with normal porsche ones.

Curiously, I'm 99% certain I know that one. And I can vouch (as can the steering wheel shine) that it has done a few more miles than 90,000 (not that it really matters).
