Every device that locates speed cameras or laser radars is illegal in Greece .
Aren't they in England?

Nope, we can use them for now, anything that blocks them is illegal though.

It just won't be cricket if they go, the fuzz would have an unfair advantage.

loads of reactions over here.
What can you do when every ticket is just for 10km to hard. The only thing you have to do in Holland is pay and thats it. if you are above 50km then you are in trouble.

So i'm not a racer and yes the car drives to good.

No.. There are those that sense a signal(Laser) that wil soon be illegal in the UK (not sure when)
AND there are those that have a data base and with GPS tell you where they are. These are totally legal in the UK and will NOT be made illegal in the near future

Speeding

On a lighter note,I read a joke in a magazine a while back.
Set in the future,a guy gets pulled over for supposedly speeding.
The guy protests he was not speeding,ah says the policeman, you were not speeding, but you were thinking about it.

Whilst in Belgium over new year, I was with a friend who is polish and likes to drive quickly, I noticed that he was driving dramatically slower than normal. I asked him whether he had had a dramatic revelation from God to slow down or finally he had realised that live was worth living, after all. No, it wasn't either, it was the several million speed cameras in the town/city where he lives. They are everywhere and everyone seems to follow the speed limits. The funny thing is that his wife was the one to get the speeding ticket in the first month of living there!!!!!!! His wife, although polish too, isn't what you call a fast driver.

Speed cameras are good things if used correctly and not just to make money. Wasn't there a comment on Top Gear that one stretch of road in the UK that doesn't have any speed cameras had seen a 20% reduction in accidents compared with an overall 5% increase on roads with speed cameras.

I think it was civicfan who told me that speed cameras in poland will actually work over the course of this year and it will be interesting to see what happens to speeding here. At present each handheld speed camera has to have a document of comformity( or something similar ) to be used by police over here, and if they dont have it with them they cannot proceed with the speeding offense fine.

Frankly, I have to see one yet that is for safety and not moneymaking. There are even technical reasons why it is so: for a correct measure the speed camera needs to stand on a straight strip, if it's in a curve the lousiest lawyer will win the case for the driver and guess what, fatal accidents tend not to happen on long straight strips... The end of "racing times" on the road will come with the satellite "big brother" systems that will be able to simply force cars to go slower (and probably automatically take the fine off your account, brave new world huh? - when this comes I'm getting a Yaris, and a Segway for downtown). Hope one will be able to take a special "exemption" test for people who still can drive

What will happen in Poland, I think I know, at first the accidents rate will rise because some fellows will kick the brakes seeing a speed camera and others will park in their b*tts, later everyone will run out of money and drive like a lamer. Another possibility would be to create a motorist lobby which would prevent exorbitant rip-off. With the "document of conformity" it's problematic in Poland, you often get the fine after 5 months or so and God can tell which camera was inside the box five months ago (80% are empty as yet and the camera "inlays" are moved from one to another). Without doubt, you still could tear your fine out of the magistrate's (or state) throats, but let's be realistic, how many Poles can afford a lawyer?

They are illegal in Germany (though nobody gives a sh*t about it) and this proves clearly that the speed camera system is a ripoff plot and has nothing to do with safety. If it was for safety, the speedcams should be painted orange or bright pink, with warnings 200 m ahead, this could help make traffic slower where it needs to be slower - but this is neither where the cameras stand, nor what they stand for

I have one speed camera ticket, -- the standard £60 by post job. (48 in a 40 limit.)
Must be over 4 years ago now.
How long do they last for, - please.

3 years mate, you can apply to get it removed now, I got one 58 in 50 (on a motorway, with roadworks, ironically no one was in these roadworks, and the camera neatly hidden around a corner!!!), I told em' where to stick it, wrote back, they said fine, we won't take it any further

ATB,
Tom

Be careful - they come off your licence in 3 years but the question on the insurance declaration is normally "Have you had any accidents or convictions in the last x years" where x is typically 5.

I didn't mention the number of fines I received in my two seaters, as they were a long time ago.
I would get a fine in my Lotus 7, for just "being there".

o wait yes they are illegal over here in the UK.

but i depends why you are using them.

if you use them to avoid speed cameras and to use them to allow you to speed then they are illegal.

if you use them to notify you of accident black spots then they are legal

which is why the road angel and the tomtom camera alerts are called safty camera alerts not speed camera alerts

always a way around.

same as you can buy and own an FM tranmitter you just cannot use it
