OK you are quite vorrect when you say the TV has no analogue out at all, Not even a headphone socket accordong the the spec sheet here LG 42LT75 : LG UK

Even if you had a headphone socket that would be no use as the output would be controlled by the TV volume.

If when you bought the TV you specified that you needed it to work with your existing surround sound which is analogue you have a case to get your money back. If however you didn't you don't.

The real solution is to buy an upto date AV receiver/amp that has the correct optical in.

RGB OPTICAL 3 WAY COMPONENT VIDEO / AUDIO REMOTE SWITCH on eBay, also, SCART Cables, Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 28-Feb-08 14:08:40 GMT)
is £60 plus postage, but has 3 sets of inputs, and seems to be able to output via phono...

obviously might be worth dropping them a line to check before buying though!

Charles - what I would do is start by seeing if AV1 scart outputs analogue sound when the TV is on. Although the manual doesn't mention this, a different spec sheet does.

If that works, then you need a scart switcher to get your 2 devices into AV2.

Maplin > SCART Plug to SCART Plug Plus 4 Phono Plugs

I found this one more adapted if Charles has wired his CD/DVD/VHS player with his Home Theater...

l-Noel has got it in one though I reckon.

Thanks everyone for your efforts.

Charles I've just found this for you.

DVD upgrade to 1080p. Optical input. Wireless rear speakers. HDMI connection to TV.

Panasonic UK - SC-PT350WEB-S Systems

You can get it on Amazon for around £250. Go on; treat yourself...it is your birthday!

Ps: Now you're going to say you've only got one HDMI input for your TV!! Well I know you can get HDMI splitters: Amazon.co.uk: Vivo Branded UK's Lowest Priced 4 Port HDMI Switch Box Splitter suitable for Playstation 3 (PS3) / Xbox 360 / HD DVD Player / SKY HD Box / Virgin Media TV / Nintendo Wii Games Console / Blu-Ray: Electronics & Photo

Lady H gave me a Sky+ thingy for my birthday.

The new tele can record things straight from air.

I've already got an LG hard disk recorder, as well as the Panasonic thingy.

......will I live long enough to watch all these recordings anyway?

......must get Blue-Ray

Everybody, (except alt), knows that a Sky+ thingy is a normal Sky thingy without the plus thingy!

Those 2 HDMI connects must be used for summat!

Sky HD?

Sounds like a waste of money.

The pics on my LCD are pretty good, can't that they can improve THAT much!

Anyway the service offered by Sky is well too expensive for what I would get out of it.

Sky Sports HD? - don't do sport!

Sky Movies HD? - usually seen the movies that are available already on dvd or the cinema if they were good enough.

BBC HD? - only one pithy channel usually showing what David Attenthingy did last week!

And all that rubbish for just £300 for the receiver and at least £10 every month.

When free to air HD appears in 2012 I might get some extra bits, but 'til then Corrie in Analogue for me!

The reason for me to stick with Freeview was the 200 - 250 notes upfront and a minimum of £26 a month for Sky HD and thats no movies or sports!!!

Get a PS3 with the upfront saving and buy 2 blue ray movies a month to actually see HD content you want rather than wait 6 months for it to be on Sky

You can use Amazon online and have it delivered

If you do go to Currys, don't let them steer you towards HD DVD!!!
