Infra-Red LEDs

Hi

There seems to be quite a few electrical experts on these forums, judging by all the add-ons and mods I've seen. Hopefully someone might be able to help me with something really simple.

I have a small colour CCTV camera that I'd like to install into a Birdbox, so that my Dad can watch what goes on in there, he's a keen bird watcher. What I would like to do is install some LEDs to the birdbox so that the Camera can work at night. I have the camera cable and some extra power connectors so that I can take some power for the LEDs. The power supply is 12v, not sure about the amps it or whatever) but I can have a look when I get home. The Camera seems to be Infra-Red sensitive as I can see my TV remote flashing if I point the camera at it.

Does anyone have any idea what type of Infra-Red LEDs I need and if I need any resistors etc. and where I would get them from. Any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

btw For anyone that's interested, here's a link to some clips I've taken from a different camera. YouTube - dwheater's Channel

Think of the poor birds. They'll be thinking it's dawn when the LED's switch on! They need their sleep as well.

That's why I want Infra-Red LEDs, as the light is invisible and won't disturb them.

mattlittle: Thanks for the link I'll have a look.

Anyone one know which LEDs I need and if I can connect directly them to the power source?

I've got an LED alarm clock and I can sleep through that alright!
