Laser speed camera

On my way to Manchester at 06:00hrs this morning, on the M62, when I saw a marked Police car on a bridge, I spotted it a good 400 meters away, as I approached I notcied a red laser light. When I passed the speedo was reading 78 mph but the Tom Tom was reading 72 mph, I think that the Tom Tom is more accurate, has anyone here been caught by one of these and if so what speed were you going ?

Fingers crossed

I was told that if the Cop doesn't point it at exactly the right spot on the vehicle it can give vastly incorrect readings.

You should be ok at that, there ain't many cops that'll do you under 80mph on a motorway

Wrong, 'I got done', 59 in a 50 (My last ticket, got off it though ) by a laser gun.

Should be ok at 72, usually 10% + 2mph about 79-80 is generally the rule, although it depends what they've been ordered to take you at, could be 80 could be 73-4, only your 14 days will tell, but you should be ok.

May be more than 14 days as I'm running a hire car, through my company, at the moment. No way I'd subject Brie to 150 miles per day on the M62, she's in the garage with a high gloss finish at the moment. Bless her.

Good grief ! If Captain slow the 2nd (Occasional Vtec only) is concerned about a possible speeding ticket, what chance for the rest of us LOL ! Or am I detecting a little irony in the sig. ??

Well sadly they are allowed extra time to send it (17 days IIRC).

Check here for some info: Speed Trap Bible, speeding ticket, speeding fine, fight speeding fine, caught speeding, radar detector, laser jammer, gatso

Tom

if you do get caught by a handheld speedcamera you should be able to get off it as they can be very innaccurate by up to 25%. all you need to do is speak to a legal company who specialise in motor convictions and they will sort it all out for you.

No irony, I really am a pootler most of the time but as I was in a 2.2 twin turbo diesel on an virtually empty motorway at 06:00hrs I couldn't resist.

Think I've been won over by diesel power Brie's days may be numbered !

So you were the one who got all of Kent (or was it just South Kent) to stop using the speed guns for a couple of weeks last year until they were trained how to use them!!!!

Think so, or at least one of the cheeky bassers (they still technically can't use them for motorbikes and most of the A2/M2 is unsuitable anyhoo). It was a few months I thought???? (I havn't seen a laser gun there for ages now, they just use the vans now, which arn't suitable for most dual carriageways except by Jades Crossing, they use the lay-by going up the hill just round the bend, which is illegal siting technically, but I bet people still pay).
