Bridgend is it that bad?????

Hi Guys,

Just been reading over on the 'detailing forum' about how bad Bridgend is getting, must admit didn't seem the greatest place when I was last there, but at the same time didn't seem to rival Chechnya either. Anyone near enough to confirm or deny it has gotten worse (I know some very dodgy girls live there, my ex being one of them, so if it is getting bad, I'll be giggling just a bit ). As I remember the worst bit was by the sea, near the ice-cream parlour on the hill????? Maybe it's changed a bit??? But the hotel I was in looked ok.

Hmmm

Wife used to work in Bridgend a few years back - wasn't then a place I'd put in my top 10 list of 'must go' places, but didn't seem too bad...
Haven't been there for a while though

How come you didn't pop in for a coffee on the way through though!

I went down their about 3 years ago (just before I found out the ex had been cheating on me behind my back, nice girl, hmmmm , she lived in Porthcawl near the seafront, but they apparently like to still class it as Bridgend????). She took me round and showed me a few places, a little pub on one of the estates nearby was alright, cheap beer . But the area (Porthcawl and Bridgend) were fairly desolate places and not where I'd like to spend most of my time.

If I'd have known I'd have popped in, I really liked Cardiff, I've been there twice, 1st was to see Crystal Palace Vs West Ham play-off the other time was with she who must not be named I parked in the local leisure centre car park for free and walked to the local weatherspoons, then visited the underground shopping bit where Dr Who was filmed and then went to the arcade (where you walk ove the little studs that mark the graves) and wandered round the tatto parlours and collectible shops). Great day out really, no medal shops though

Cardiff is gradually turning itself into a really great City

definately work in progress (seems like more cranes than people at the moment LOL), but it's getting there

Porthcawl - I say nothing... (just incase we have any owners in here from there )

My ex (wife ) was a psuedo-valleys girl (Pontypridd), so I know what you're on about

As to not popping in for coffee - guess I'll forgive you that one as it was pre Civinfo

I really love Wales full stop, best time I had was in Wales in about 2001, we were trotting round doing the odd museum etc. (The Glorious 24th Foot, the SWB ) and we were driving (middle of night, pitch black, as most of rural wales is at night), saw signs for a hotel, drove for what seemed like miles to a place that looked like the craggy island parochial house but grander, turned out we were the only ones booked in, and I spent the night in the bridal suite , it had the ruins of a castle/monastery out back and was really great, not expensive either if I remember.

Why say nothing about Porthcawl?????? It was bad but not that bad (that should start them talking on here if there are any ). I turned up for her, roses and chocolates, after a 2-3 hour car journey to see her and got a Hi, (hardly inspiring aftr driving all that way should have known really).

I agree Cardiff is a city in progress, but the millenium stadium is greta (I'm happier since we won there ). But feel a blood bath could occur, because both sides fans are held in the same large area, alright for clubs like mine, but put millwall and other in there I'll be like 28 days later (except with more savages devoid of human skill and emotion).

ATB,
Tom

Not a footy fan myself, and tend to avoid town on big match days, but apparently the cops round here are pretty good at keeping the more 'vocal' fans apart

It helps that the train station is almost next door to the stadium, and also there are huge signs on the M4 on the way in, directing opposing fans to one of two different exits, which then end up on opposite sides of town

I guess they may relax things a bit for more civilised supporters

St Mary street (the big road near the stadium) is Buses / Taxis only now - which is great for pedestrians (they've widened the pavements too), but a right PITA for locals

Is that where you cross about 3 lanes of traffic to reach the pavement from the car park????? I seem to remeber walking down some small streets to get to the stadium (memory isn't working today ).

It could well be

though to be fair, we have quite a lot of car parks, and quite a lot of rounds with right and / or left turn only filter lanes, so you could be describing a few places

we definately have some small streets too

so your memory is doing something right
