Norwich Union One day Insurance

Wondering if anyone in the know can help
a couple of days ago i took out a one day insurance policy through Norwich Union because i needed to drive my dads car
the total came up to 12.60
however today when i checked my online banking they had taken £12.60 TWICE
but i know i only submitted and confirmed the payment once
but i do remember reading somewhere "check your details are correct or you wont be refunded"
i just emailed them now telling them all this because i have got a sore throat and can't be bothered arguing yet
so just wondering what chance have i got of getting my 12.60 back lol

Depends what they have down there end (or rather what you threaten to shove up theirs lol). They may have accidentally registered you twice or they may have added something extra to the policy for some reason, it sounds more likely they have mistakenyl taken it twice, which you may get it back, but it will be quite a bit of chasing! Did you print off your receipt????? I have a grudge against NU for a seperate reason, but they are greta if you don't claim, minute you claim, drop and hot you like a hot whatever, comes to mind.

They are not renowned for their efficiency so don`t let them get away with it and if you paid by B card or M card enlist their help if things don`t go right

Hope you did pay by credit card mate, as that can really help. If so, have them sort it for you. I feel sure that they will, as NU are not going to go into a lengthy run on such a small amount.
I have had my car Insurance, with NU for years Tom. Never had any trouble with them. Gave them the elbow this time round though, as they couldn't touch Saga quote by a LONG way. Mine you, - I have never had to try them on a claim.

I think that it may well do. Sorry Mate.
If you phone NU, chances are, you will be passed from piller to post + all the hold on music and press this and that buttons etc.
You could end up paying half of the £12 in your next telephone bill.

I don't have all the details, but a credit card means that effectively the card company buy the item and then sell it to you, whereas with a debit card, they just transfer funds on your behalf.

ALWAYS use a **credit** card on the Interweb when you can.

There may be a minimum value before this kicks in (or is it a maximum?).

Purchases are covered for loss and theft above £30 last time I claimed (for £29.99 of course) on Barclaycard.

I'd contact the bank, as you can justifyably claim that you only asked for this transaction once, and the fact that it came out twice from the same company would bear this out. Tell them that the second one was not agreed and they may refund you.

Ring NU back though when you're better and I'm sure you'll be ok, they can't just take money without your consent! If they do refuse then you might have to write to them or threaten legal action, but in the end you should get your money back. It depends to what lengths you'll go to get it.

Hi
I work for NU in the customer experience team and if you want to email me the details I'll investigate what has happened. My email address is rebecca.sibley@norwich-union.co.uk and I'd need the policy number please.

Hope to help

Hmmmmm, Interesting the insurance companies are surfing these forums

I still have to say, NU have always been the most expensive Insurers I've dealt with, I have never seen them do a decent deal on insurance (even when insuring 10 vehicles at once with them!), my father switched from them and has found a company that gives him better cover on his RR for over a 1000 pounds less!!!!!!

Hiya Unknownsoldier

Its actually a large part of my job to look at what is being said about us online, its important that we listen to our customers and the internet is widely becoming an area that people talk. I'm here to help where I can, I might not always be able to give you the answer you want, but I can certainly do my best to investigate.

Hi Becca,

Thanks, at least your being honest about being here (I'm sure there are many lurking that we never hear about, good and bad). The internet is like a huge bar really, loads of people meet up and discuss bits and bobs, and obviously like here, people give different opinions (more often than not bad ones, as bad news has a habit of travelling faster than good).

I understand Insurance companies can't always give the best quote (otherwise there would be no competition), but I must admit I've never (and recently my father hasn't) got on well with NU, I suppose it's like relationships, some people just click others just clash

ATB,
Tom

Hi Tom

I understand exactly what your saying, and thanks for being so welcoming

I promise not to hold it against you about not getting on with NU.

Becca,

Thanks for not holding that against me. BTW, that is one sweet job, getting paid to surf around chat rooms!!!!!!!

No worries on the welcome (we are quite friendly, honestly ), glad that NU (who I must admit have been trying their hardest to get back the reputation they lost in/to the press after the flooding) are trying to find out why drivers arn't going with them and going elsewhere.

ATB,
Tom
