I use the Google search toolbar which also has a popup blocker, not perfect but a great improvement, I found.
You might also try running AdAware as well as Spybot. HTH. |

I get very few annoying 'pop-ups' now. Well worth a try, as it's free anyway. PS: I did try the Virgin PC Security blocker but found that it stopped me using the 'Smilies'. Last edited by allan40alt; 13th April 2008 at 09:39. |

I have Yahoo as my home page too, with their toolbar installed. I get no pop ups at all.
Take a look at this: Internet / Network Security, - Articles Stop Pop-Ups |

Go in to the Program Files folder and Uninstall programs and try to match programs to see if theres and rogue ones in there.

there's a program called ccleaner which gets rid of everything. It's free but be careful if and when you run it as it gets rid of all your cookies too, so if you're automatically signed into any discussion forums such as this one, you'll need to log in again. Not good if you've forgotten all your passwords!

Yes they are FWH
I think I may have found it. Its a cookie which cannot be removed using Spyware (some thing about replicating itself) except by purging ALL cookies. Ive done this and it hasnt happened..Watch this space!! |

It doesn't sound like you've got any spyware - just pop-up problems. You could try using a Security Package like Norton 360 or alternatively, stop going to those dodgy websites
It's always a good plan to clean all your history and cookies regularly if possible. |

A very useful site that may be worth a try is www.sysinternals.com
It is a Microsoft TechNet site which we use a lot, however you dont need to be signed in, so if you havent got a TechNet account you can still access these tools. You can then look at the Process Utilities and see what little nasties are running (even if they are not showing up in Task Manager etc). If there is a small app (virus, spyware, adware etc) this will list it. You may need to filter the list down as you will see how many millions of processes are actually running every minute! Hope this helps. J |
