Here are my thoughts;

When you are a learner driver in a car you should not be be allowed to drive a car with a bigger engine than a 1.2, when you pass you should not be allowed to drive a car with a faster engine than a 1.4, second year 1.6, third year 1.8.

When you reach 70 you should pass a refresher test every year or two, old people are just as much danger as inexperienced drivers, my 76 year old aunt left my house in the dark the other night with her sunglasses on as she said other people's car lights and street lights hurt her eyes!!! When she is on the road I dont want to be, especially when she is trying to park.

I bet if these measures were put in place there would be less accidents and deaths on the road.

Problem with that is that it forces unexperienced drivers into small cars. My first car was a 2.1 - it was still slow because it was old and heavy.

I thought this was an amicable and useful discussion on the matter but now things are just getting personal... no good can come of any of this… I’ll stick to the constructive threads thanks!

...I look forward to the day when I'm as experienced and mature

As I was the one to start this, - " On a horse thing", let me be the first to welcome HFB on the forum again.
I feel sure that he will have some useful input and trust that he accepts
--- Lets start afresh.
Which part of the smoke are you HFB, I was born in Tooting although far away now,I still visit regularly. May meet you in "Jack Beard's Pub sometime.

That’s all very well I just don't think four people taking the mick out of one person that they don't know is particularly funny. I could understand if it was someone you all knew and got along with, but when it's someone that you don't know and clearly you don't get along with then it just becomes a personal attack. It’s all fine and well amongst yourselves but to bring it into the public domain is another mater!
I've seen plenty of people on this forum joking around, and that’s good! It's what makes this forum such a friendly and helpful place to visit. I just don't think what occurred above really falls into that category.
How would you feel if you were relatively new to the forum and suddenly 4 of the 'regulars' turned on you?
I understand you may have been rubbed up the wrong way so to speak, and I completely see where you're coming from, but I wouldn’t bring myself down by retaliating in such a way.
I have respect for allot of the members of this forum and have learned allot from their contributions. I would just hate to think that this would be the first thread someone new would come across.
Maybe it's just me and the stress of exams has driven me into being an old bore?! (No need to answer that )

i don't see how they could have been rubbed up the wrong way , HFB has not said anything out of order and has put forward good points.
its just like a playground where if your in a clique you feel "stronger."
quite funny when some people are talking of experience, attitude and maturity and how it comes with age in driving

anyway i don't want this thread deleted so can we get back onto topic please , although i don't know if anyone has anything else relevant to say really ......

I have to say that it is rather rare that this sort of thing happens and there are reasons behind it and yes I totally agree it is rather childish but sometimes even the 'mature' ones do something childish. We are not attacking HFB just his signature sentence - there is a difference.

NEEMSTAR believe me when I say this doesn't normally on here but there are reasons and it's just the 'mature ones' blowing off.

Now back to your comment about the mazda RX8 you make a valid point about it being only a 1.3 engine but isn't the power a little bit stronger than a normal 1.3 engine?

I actually think that you made some good points about 'experience' and I think I posted about the lovely 'older', 'experienced' driver I was behind today doing 20km/h in a 50 zone and looking like they were going to die of fright. Experience isn't just the purview of the old but maybe common sense maturity is.
