I read almost anything, up to 2 paperbacks a week. One of my favourite authors is Ranulph Fiennes who I could recommend to anyone who likes true adventure books.

The film of "Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang" is apparently very good (however it is subtitled, as it is in Mandarin), let me know what the books like.

Yes, I will. I knew about the film, but thought I would read the book first, then get the DVD when it comes out.

Ang Lee is a great director so it should be good, I was gonna take my GF to see it on Valentines day, but as it is in Mandarin not Cantonese we can't understand it (me especially!). I'll be grabbing it on DVD when it comes out too

Just finished "No Country for Old Men" by Cormac McCarthy...superb book; not seen the Coen brothers film adaptation yet but I have heard good things. Also "The Road" by the same author is good.

Just started Lord of The Rings (having got bored and given up some years ago). Hardback volume - good for your wrist muscles!

Never saw the point of LOTR, it bored me senseless in book form, on radio and on film (fell asleep in the first film!). Seems some people love it and other like me loathe it, most odd.

I'm one of those that love it. Read and re-read the book years ago, saw the cartoon verion (terrible). Didn't like the radio version much (the story is too visual for sound only I think). thought the films were very good indeed.

Thank goodness we don't all like the same things...

Did "Making Money" a few weeks back, and was impressed (as ever )

Hi TT

Mercedes is a science fiction/fantasy writer and is married to Larry Dixon.

She has her own website Mercedes Lackey - The Official Website and she has written loads of books, the ones I have read (the mage wars - owl mage books) come from a series about the Valdemar universe:

Heralds of Valdemar
Take a Thief
Exile's Honor
Exile's Valor
Arrow of the Queen
Arrow's Flight
Arrow's Fall Vows & Honor
The Oathbound
Oathbreakers
Oathblood
The Last Herald Mage Trilogy
Magic's Pawn
Magic's Promise
Magic's Price
The Mage Winds Trilogy
Winds of Fate
Winds of Change
Winds of Fury
Kerowyn's Tale
By the Sword
The Mage Wars
The Black Gryphon
The White Gryphon
The Silver Gryphon
The Mage Storms Trilogy
Storm Warning
Storm Rising
Storm Breaking

The Owl Mage Trilogy
Owlflight
Owlsight
Owlknight

Brightly Burning
Valdemar Short Story Collections
Sword of Ice
Sun in Glory and other tales of Valdemar
Crossroads and Other Tales of Valdemar
Valdemar Companion

I have also read a few by Terry Brooks - the Shanara? series - long time since I read these, used to get them from the library. Have also read a few of the Darkover series by Marion Zimmer Bradley - magic/fantasy.

Hope this gives you somethig to get your teeth into!!

nice one Lippy, cheers!

I do like sets of books - allows the author to really grow the character - so definately some potential there

I was also briefly into Terry Brooks, many years ago, but kinda lost interest after about the 3rd or 4th one.

Phone is on charge at the mo, but in a bit I'll post up a pick of our bookshelves

Reading one called Snow Blind by PJ Tracy at the moment! Pretty good so far!

Some recent highlights include Retribution by Jilliane Hoffman, Stuart MacBride series (Crime novels based in Aberdeen), Darkhouse by Alex Barclay & Hannibal by Robert Harris.
