Never have I witnessed such child like loyalty to a brand name from Civic owners, before any concrete result is published. Do you refuse to believe Honda can get it wrong? Why don't you all sit tight and wait until this is cleared up one way or another. There is an excuse for Dan the Honda Dealer, as it may hit his sales targets, but the rest should reserve judgement. Foot in mouth is not the best family motto.
Eddie the ex-Civic owner - thank God!
Good old Eddie who never misses a chance to slag off Honda and Civic owners

Wink An innocent bystander!

Ah Jazzman,
You are the UK's answer to Columbo, as you have blown my cover after me dropping off the 'Jett' tag. I did not run down Honda or Civic owners in my comments. Heaven knows, you all have enough on your plate without me adding to your woe's. The Civic Forum seems to lurch from one crisis to another, running through the alphabet of defects with monotonous regularity. I only said it was prudent to wait until the 'Three wheels on my waggon' syndrome was resolved, hopefully to Civic owners satisfaction. As the handbrake (which is already under scrutiny) only operates on the rear wheels, there are obvious advantages in having two rear wheels attached when applying the aforesaid parking device.
Volkswagen strongly advocate a sound handbrake and two rear wheels.
Why is my tongue so frequently lodged in my cheek? - I must seek medical advice!
Keep smiling Allan - when the time comes, Betty Ford has clinics to bring you back from the edge. The alternative in a Volkswagen Dealership - Ouch!
Eddie.

Poor Eddie, still trying to wind us up, give it up as there are more and more happy civic owners appearing every day.
My beauty goes in tomorrow for it`s first service, yes it is a year old and not one problem to report. Average fuel consumption (corrected figures) for the first 7000 miles is 38.7 mpg
Sorry Eddie that you could`nt appreciate what a good and enjoyable car the spaceship is, but hey it`s your loss and our gain. Enjoy your VW read your Which magazine and leave us to enjoy our spaceships.

Wink Patience is a virgin!

Hi Robbo,
Don't worry, my brain is fully engaged, but is your handbrake fully engaged, or is that just another over inflated story. Honda DO get it wrong - all makes have their problems, so hold fire on 'foot in mouth' until this saga has run it's course. The handbrake mod seems to be a post code style of allocation, so all is not exactly Utopia in the Honda camp.
Cheers,
Eddie.

I'm sorry Eddie but your sanctimonious comments about Honda just don't help here.
We know you don't have one any more so why make comments like:

I have to agree with Robbo here, there is one thing making constructive comments about problems but simply being obstreperous for the sake of it is not helpful.

Whilst other members have sold their cars and have remained on the forum they have continued to offer support and help to those who have encountered problems. That's the best way.

Honda owners can also have tongue in cheek.

I always ensure my car is in gear when parked up.

Unfortunately there was no work around for VW owners late last year and earlier this year for the cack fuel pumps when VW/Audi/Skoda swapped to a cheaper supplier and nearly all 140 tdi engine cars packed up within months. Still the dealers were nice enough to store owners cars whilst the worldwide shortage of replacements was sorted.

Is there a Jetta owners website?

Is this a dagger I see before me?

Oh Jazzman,
How could you think so badly of me to link me with the suspected Ford Fifth Columnist. I have my pride you know. I am firmly embedded in the German quality car upper crust end of the market so to speak, far removed from Swindon and it's associated problems
Seriously, it is this website that convinced me to change my 6 month old Civic for a Jetta, because the constant drip feed of problems associated with the new Civic do not make comfortable reading. As I have said before, the Civic breaks new ground in design and innovation, but it doesn't come near the previous model for quality or reliability - that is a fact.
Yours is trouble free, but what about the dozens of repetitive complaints I have read about. I have a technical background and am deeply interested in all things electrical/mechanical, that is why I visit this site, not to gloat. As for FMEA, he is a busted flush, or he would have come forward as promised.
Any further 'slings and arrows' aimed at poor old Eddie land way too short when your own defences are wide open.
Keep smiling Jazzman - has your Honda been to Lourdes?
Cheerio,
Eddie.

Good to hear that you have a technical background I suppose that`s why you base your choices on Which magazine.
You changed your Civic because other people had problems not you, sounds sensible, shame you did`nt base your opinion on the thousands of us that have totally reliable Civics and thoroughly enjoy them.
No my civic has`nt been to Lourdes but it had it`s first service yesterday and I`m sorry to have to report to you that there is not one thing wrong with it, the dealer automatically fitted the new type handbrake as well.
So there you have it along with thousands of happy civic owners and drivers reliability, performance, economy, fun and good service so of course we can keep smiling and we can make our own minds up without resorting to magazines and blaming this website because some of us have had problems.
