oooooookkkkkkkkkk
I need to ask some dumb noob questions here as I've always stayed clear of iPods until now, but this is rather tempting... Do I have to re-rip my albums to dump them onto this? I'm assuming it's a bog stanard usb connection (usb one end, guessing iPod specific connector t'other end)? If I download a vid from t'net, can I just dump it on this and expect it work? Or does it need specific iPod styling codecs? I'm thinking in particular stuff purchase or free downloads from the PS3 store. I'm sure I'll have other questions - sorry! |

You can use iTunes to put audio cd's on it, or you can just add your normal MP3's without and conversion.
The Lead (if its the same as mine) is USB one end and the Ipod one the other. Video's need to be converted to match the screen size. Hope that helps. |

Hey, Can you? How do you do that? My other half has an Ipod Nano and I was always under the impression you had to use the Itunes software to first convert to .AAC file format before copying across the the Ipod. If we can just drag & drop MP3's I'd like to know how myself Ian |

Brilliant, thanks dude That saves a lot of fiddling about, as that was the one thing stopping me liking Ipods due to having to convert everything. Ian |

Ok here goes: 1. The only way to upload song to an ipod is through itunes. 2. If you already have mp3's that you have from another software package, all you have to do is play them through itunes and "sync" your ipod and it will transfer. Its easy really once you get used to it I have been using ipod right back from gen1 (got my first one back in 2001 when i was at an exhibition in taiwan). The ipod really is the best mp3 player out there. The reason that its the best is not image, branding, its itunes. Itunes is what makes it happen. Expecially the itunes store- you can buy song, album, music videos and the lot! |

Chaps, just so that the general intent of this thread isn't lost, please would you start another thread to discuss the intricacies of iTunes?
ta, Damian p.s. iTunes is a very easy to use once installed! You'll come to realise this within a few moments of using it! |

So....
I have a fair ammount of mp3 and a 1GB Cowon iAudio mp3 player which I like. I run WinAmp on my PCs for mp3s as I found the lastest WMP started messing around with my tags for some reason. I am very particular about my folder structures, file names and tags. In the Civic I use CDs with mp3 files, which is fine. I am looking for a higher capacity mp3 player for non-car use. I am looking for a mp3 player with 20GB+, and the iPods do look good value. My only concern is iTunes. 1) Is this the only software for moving mp3 files to an iPod, or can it be used as any USB storage device, moving files over in explorer? 2) Does iTunes interfere at all with files or tags? 3) Does iTunes simply take files from an existing location and move to the iPod or does it create itīs own database / repository somehow? 4) Anything else I need to know? Thanks in advance from a potential iPod newbie. |

FWH:
1) Is this the only software for moving mp3 files to an iPod, or can it be used as any USB storage device, moving files over in explorer? You can move tracks over used explorer but you have to "trick it". You need to make sure you show "hidden files". That way you get to see all the raw data files on the ipod. 2) Does iTunes interfere at all with files or tags? Nope, You can assign you own tags and information for certian files. 3) Does iTunes simply take files from an existing location and move to the iPod or does it create itīs own database / repository somehow? If you double click say an mp3 file and play it through itunes, it will load onto your ipod. If you then move the file you clicked, itunes will display an error as it wont find the file. I have a folder on my desktop for all files i have downloaded. 4) Anything else I need to know? More and more i ahve been using the itunes store. Its brilliant. It will find any tracks you want. Videos too. I would have a play about with the setting when u first get it. you can "manually manage music" or let itunes do it for u. The options are endless. The best thing to do is take the plunge. And start using. I have a 1Gb shuffle, a 4Gb nano, a 32Gb ipod video and a 16Gb iphone. So i have a fair bit of experience with itunes and ipods lol |
