Number Plates
Try www.createplates.com
Very good service from this lot. It says 'Not road legal' but if you don't go mad and choose the right text it'll look great.....and it looks legal to me. Can even bung on 'www.civinfo.com' along the bottom of the plate if you so wish. ![]() |

posting some stuff I know was lost:
please excuse me if it's blunt - I took time over the wording last time round Above plates are not legal because you are only allowed to have a recognised flag (England / Scotland / Wales) where the Honda badge is. Also, the people who made the plates must put contact details (co name & post code usually) in small letters along the bottom. Probably not enough for a pull, but a good excuse if mr / mrs copper wants to have a chat with you. |

It is not required for the company who make up your plates to put contact details on them. If you have been told this then you are being conned into giving free advertising! The only legal requirements are 1. You must have the plates made up from a registered number plate supplier. List can be found here 2. You need to provide documentation to confirm identity 3. You need to provide documentation to establish entitlement to registration mark 4. The plate must conform to a set style which can be viewed here I've had quite a few plates done up in my time, the most recent being less than a year ago when I had to replace a cracked plate. In every instance i've never had the company's logo or name on my plates! In my experience (and many friend's experience) the police will not pull you over for having 'illegal' plates. In fact many people drive with illegal plates when they alter the lettering/numbering slightly on private plates. They will only pull you over if you a) look like a 'chav' or, b) have a 'chavved' up car. Therefore you could probably get away with buying these plates and sticking them on your car! If you do get pulled over by the police they will most likely smack you on the wrist and tell you to change them, which of course you won't!! |

apols ads (et al)
The last plate I had made up was about 2 years ago (before dvla went all 20th century and put the regs in a 'easy to read' PDF doc). I was 100% certain that you could then display the contry flags (and the Euro one now you mention it) - but hey, that's me and my memory sorry! (or they may have changed it, dunno Bizzarely, it wasn't ever the plate manufacturer that told me about the free advertising, it was a copper I was having a polite conversation with... When he used the slightly modified* plate on my bike as a good excuse to have a chat But having perused the DVLA pdf... Quote:
* right size, right font, no misspacing - just made out of carbon fibre instead of BSI plastic. He followed me through town traffic, I wasn't speeding or doing anything silly. I think he actually just fancied a poke around my 916 And no, I didn't change it afterwards - although I had to get a proper one made up, take it to my local MOT station and get the vehicle rectification doc stamped But hey - if you can't do the time, don't do the time, as they say. 'time' being hassle, inconvenience, cost of a new plate and a (from memory) £20 fine. All that said, the plate on my car was made up by MALPLATES, again with legal fonts etc etc, but without them being mentioned on it anywhere As an interesting aside - your number plate probably doesn't need to be as big as it is - it's all down to the gaps around the letters |

It is a legal requirement that the number plate manufacturers name and postcode is on the bottom of each plate ( not just for advertising ).This is so the police can trace dodgy mis-spaced plates back to whoever made them.It does not affect you as the owner of the car as you did not make the plates. The companies making the dodgy plates usually leave their name off or put on whatever you want instead. These companies are mostly in N.Ireland so are outside the current legislation anyway , although they are going to remedy that soon!

Czechplastic..do you think that people who can afford to have a private plate illegally made up however they want, could not care less about the fine even if they are taken to court? Are the fines 'behind the times' so to speak?

Hopefully they'll take notice when the plate is withdrawn, i mean they aren't cheap to buy but you're correct. sometimes fines are absolutely no deterrant, its like giving richard branson a £30 parking ticket, thats small change to someone like him!

If they confiscate the number the fine is £1000 ! Plus they lose the value of the number plate which could be a few grand. www.northumbrianumbers.com |

Show plates will be outlawed next year by making them a differnt colour ( Green ? ). A "C" plate car is subject to all the current rules for number plates , you have to go back to 1973 to escape them.
