Red face

There was only one tyre shown in the pic, but that is all I need.

You see, I've got this space in the boot under this flap....................!

I remeber reading about these a long long time ago - all my mates didn't believe me when I spoke to them about it so obviously now I can prove them wrong at least!

I don't think they would be very good on our cr*p B-roads though, will need to resurface all roads before we could probably use them over here!

"This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

a... no more air valves
a... no more air compressors at gas stations
a... no more repair kits"

I know the spare wheel thing is a bit of an issue but is this really the way to go, Can't see that the above " impact " is that life changing.

Would be nice to know how noisey these things are, they look like they could play some sort of tune as they rotate!

There would be a bit of scope for "out of balance" too. Drive through some horrible squidgy mud, then off up the motorway with your steering wheel vibrating like a madman. If you think of how much of a vibe you get when one of those tiddly little weights falls off....

Or will they end up with token sidewalls to stop this?

Not that I like the look of them, but I am really interested to see where this development goes. I for one would like the idea that you cannot get a puncture, or worse, a blowout at 70. They look like they can deform nicely over obstacles, such as bricks or kerbs, should you find yourself needing to do that.

They look as though they must be tuned to your car for stiffness. As with a car tyre, there seemed to be a slight amount of flattening at the road surface. Does this mean that ligher cars will need 'softer' tweels than heavier cars? On the same lines, when travelling on fast roads with a big load, you need to increse the pressur ein your rear tyres. What would happen about this?

I wonder if they will incorporate that system inside a standard looking tyre (ie; with sidewalls)?

Yes, but if they added sidewalls

Ps: and they would not have to be load bearing; just cosmetic.

When you've not got anything under that flap in the boot, any shape would be nice!!!

Could sidewalls be added though ? Adding sidewalls would surely cause pressure inside to build up (would have to be sealed to stop water getting in) and going over a bump may cause bad things to happen to the general wheel when you have both the fins and air pressure trying to do different things
