On the BMW iPod link, you set up 6 playlists in iTunes with specific names like CD 1, CD 2, etc. Then when you connect to the car you can select just these 6 playlists as is they were CD's in a changer. Again not ideal as you don't get track info and are limited to only a part of your music.

Not quite correct about the BMW - you do loose the CD changer, then CD1=Playlists, CD2=Artists, CD3=Albums, CD4=Genres, CD5=Podcasts, CD6=Songs

Not ideal, but not bad.

Actually you are incorrect, please read the web site here :-

http://www.ipodyourbmw.com/

It states you have to create five BMW playlists in iTunes which then gives you access to 5 playlists or the entire library. These represent the equivalent of the 6 CD's in the changer. You only have access to select one of the 5 playlists or the entire library, and then only by track number, you don't see any other information. You can't see Genre, Artist, Album, etc.

Hi Ian,

Hate to disagree - but I have been using the system for a couple of months now, for the 5 series anyway, I think the web page has been up since pre-release, when they finally introduced it the functionality had in fact changed to as I described - they were about 12 months late getting to market. It is also possible that non-fibre optic systems work differently - just to add extra confusion! BMW can make a hash up with the best of them.
