Toyota Dealer - Total plonker

Hi Guys,

Regarding my other post, I thought I'd share this and let everyone know it's not just a Honda thing, not bothering with your customers.........

Turned up Saturday morning as arranged to pick up my GF's 58 plate 5dr Toyota Aygo + in Chilli Red, when we got there it was sitting ready to go, however upon further inspection, the fuel tank was almost empty........ now it had on the paperwork, full tank of fuel included, so this was brought up, and fair do's the guy did admit they hadn't got round to filling it up...... not a great start but at least the car was there.

Next, off he went to fill up, now there is a petrol station, not five minutes from the dealership, even accountign for traffic and fill up time, he gone about 20 minutes + (obviously drove Africa, hijacked the ship supplying the oil and refined it himself.....), then we got the keys handed to us and a goodbye.......

Yep, no handover, no PDI, no bouquet of flowers, after all even a kiss would have been nice (usually get a kiss when I'm getting s****d), so out we went, I said nothing at this point and let it continue thinking that after 30 seconds of my GF and her dad looking bemused the guy would come out and explain things to us, now I had secretly read up on the Aygo (my GF thinks I'm boring, but it is handy), I knew most bits he could have told us about, but figured 7400 quid is enough money he should walk us through it, so off in I went and asked nicely, could you come out and go through the car with her please mate, to which I got the standard, "Oh Ok" look (the one I used to give as a sulky teenager when asked to tidy my room.......). His handover went through as such, this is the engine, this is the windscreen washer bottle, fill that up as it empties (NSS!!!! No S88t Sherlock to the unninitiated), theres your oil cap and dipstick, don't bother checking it, just wait for the warning light to come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this point I 'butted in' and asked, "oh, you don't check it every time you fill uup with fuel", well you can said he, but it's not necessary......., then came the indside, with a wip round the controls that left even me bemused, and he was gone, like magic.....

Managed to catch him up and ask him if a first aid kit was included, and he asked why I would think that, and I said cos it's dispalyed in every one of your showroom vehicles...... thinking he would get the hint.... no luck. And can I purchase a glovebox lid.... they save money by not giving you one!!! Oh they don't do them anymore, which is strange as I checked my Toyota dealers list three days earlier and it was still avaliable..... and then came the best bit, they kept popping open so they got rid of them, I asked sneakily, so the Blue and Platinum don't have them then? Oh no they still get them........... Hang on, Toyota get rid of them cos they're crap, but keep them on the most expensive models??????????????? So you can surely still buy them as a part for that model? No answer and sudden need to go through a door marked employees only. Twonk. So Chichester Toyota (WKB), you are officially the worst car dealers I know And it's a tough list to beat, cos I know some crabby ones.

And the moral of the story is...... buy a Honda and leave Toyota alone......

ATB,
Tom

I should however point out that the Aygo is a totally amazing car, and I would buy one over a jazz anyday........ we have so far managed fuel economy that a Diesel could not match, and a Hybrid would be blushing at..... 75.77mpg.. that is *******g amazing! And that is conservative, as it is worked out on half a tank, but in reality we have only used a third, so in actuality, it sohuld be nearer 100mpg, as we have covered around 250 miles on a third of a tank, which is a 30 litre tank, so 10 litres of fuel to go 250 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing. That means a tank will laste 750 miles!!!! Great. And such a responsive little engine when driven properly, the VVTI really makes a difference.

Tom

You should have gone to the Toyota dealer that is almost next door to your favourite Honda dealer in TW, I found them very helpful.

And as for the Argo, I found it a great little town car, but it was really noisy and unrefined once you got it over 60mph and I would have hated to do any long motorway runs in it.

Must have changed them then as it was almost silent at 70, for the 200+ mile trip around and back from Chi'.......................

My GF's dad ordered and sorted the car, where they live in Chi' so it was bit out of my hands, but I must admit of the 3 Toyota dealers I have used, I've not been impressed with any of them really.....

Unless you've filled it up you may be a little over excited by the economy, the first 2 blobs (out of 6) are well over half the tank. We get 260 miles out of the first two blobs and then 200 out of the bottom 4!! But you can get well over 400 miles for 30 - 32 litres so hardly bad. The Mrs gets about 60 mpg out of her's driving up to South London every day. If I borrow it then the economy suffers a bit. PS It does 60mph on the speedo in 2nd!!!

Re the glove box lid, they are a bit pants (our Blue is on its 2nd!!)

It is fine up to 70, but if you ever go to Germany you may find that it is a bit noisy above 85!!! Also at speeds it is sucepable to cross winds, but as it is so light you have to expect it!!

Spooky, at the moment we both have similar cars!!!

Alan, even so, I struggle to get 200 out of half a tank at the mo' (bit heavy on the foot one feels..... , and mines a bigger tank!). It is really nippy for a tiny engine.... The glovebox lid is a necessity one feels, as otherwise there is no covered area....... which is a bit odd.

Try Beadles Medway, when we got ours, the lid was also available as a separate part.

Apparently on the Blues, the lid is added in this country in a holding pen along with the tweeters, leather gearknob and blue trim bits.

If no joy there, try a Pug or Citroen dealer, those bits along with the rev counter (if you want one) are a one type fits all.

Have fun

You need to be quite accurate fitting it or they have a habit of popping open, but after seeing the care you take on your car it shouldn't have any problem..

Make sure the tracking is kept true as our one had worn the inside edges to 2.5mm (4mm in the centre) after 12000 miles. And the Continental tyres it has are not that common a size.

Ahhh, thanks for that, I believe it has two bits for you to screw through? At least thats what it feels like.

I'll keep my eye on the tyres too, odd they use an unusual size.... however Toyoato only charge 60 quid a tyre to replace them (or something like 48 for budget tyres....). They have an online price guarantee for Aygo's etc.

That might be good news for the wife as she has been looking at replacing her Yaris. She has been very pleased with the Toyota experience but doesn't like the new Yaris but quite likes the Argo.

At the mo', Toyota are doing 1500 of the new Yaris, and several rather good offers, as well as good offers on the Aygo..... which at 70+ is quieter than my Civ!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I will be the 1st to say the Aygo is a great car, when we went from a 53 plate Corsa to the Aygo there were a few little ommisions that surprised me.

The interior lights don't come on when you unlock the car or take the key out of the ignition and there is no delayed switch off. There is no boot light. Worst of all, the front passenger door does not have a switch to turn on the interior light!!

These things must cost pennies, yet give a good feeling far above their cost.

I will say that if we had to replace the Aygo tomorrow, we would get another Aygo. If I had to replace the Civic, there would not be a Honda badge on the drive.

Agreed, In fact I'm determined to have a Toyta Yaris (the Turbo-ey one) next time. I agree on the silly bits, like the glove box lid and things like that, then they add an Aux in port, and and more cubby holes than you could shake a stick at, and a host of airbags as well as a FULL SIZE SPARE WHEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The full size spare will save you £50 - £60 when you need your first set of front tyres, I just made the best 'old' tyre the spare. No point in giviing it away when you sell, it'll make bugger all difference!!!
