Acetone in Diesel/Petrol
Just thought I would get peoples thoughts on putting Acetone into the Diesel and Petro for MPG and Performance gainl. I am sceptical about this myself hence my posting this here.
I was given this link from a collegue who owns a Toyota. please let me have your thoughts on this. http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/i...pic=44575&st=0 |

I wouldn't. The manual does say clearly not to add any additives in the fuel or oil. I wouldn't want to risk it.
I'm not saying the chaps there did not get improvments, it's just a case of 'if it ain't broke...' I am happy with the engine as is. I would be interested in reading any Civic owner's findings should they wish to try it out! |

Sounds too good to be true.....
Doesn't the manual say it is not necessary to add additives, or is that to the oil? This website explains it quite well http://www.pureenergysystems.com/new...00069_Acetone/ Last edited by richierich; 3rd November 2006 at 11:12. Reason: Link added... |

All of the cars that I have owned over the past few years have a statement in the manual that no additives are necessary, but there are still other products available that claim to increase MPG etc although costing more than acetone.

I wouldn't put any additives in mine, especially during the warranty period.
Years ago, a friend had a BSA Gold Star, and he put Castrol R in it. Lovely smell. Do they still sell it ?. |

My thoughts are that if these products really do work as well as claimed, with no negative effects on engine life and emissions, then the fuel companies would be jumping to add the stuff th their fuel claiming increased economy etc etc.
I can't back this up with proof or anything, but if something sounds too good to be true, it normally is. Until I hear a major fuel comany or car/engine manufacturer state that it works and does not harm the engine, I will steer quite clear. |

Agreed.
But there are some premium fuels out there that advertise as having greater economy over normal petrol, like BP ultimate claiming 30-odd miles more to the tank. The Shell website has a huge section devoted to reducing fuel consuption. I think it is one of their concerns, or is all that just about good public image and so on? |

Has your friend still got the bike? Look here. http://www.rgracing.co.uk/Castrol_Classic_Oils.htm You could buy a pint and have a "splash it all over" session. |

Castrol R has got to be the best smell ever, it is still available, get yourself down to a classic bike race meeting, apart from the noise of the old bikes the smell of the "r" is the best thing.
