Vista
As Windows Vista was released to MSDN subscribers on Friday, I'm taking the plunge and downloading it as I type. I requested a key for the Ultimate edition, mainly because it sounds so cool!
So, if you don't hear from me for a while...... Oh wait, I have my laptop downstairs... phew |

btw - it is a legit, registered version before anyone asks. The speech recognition is pretty good, we'll see how much better it gets with some more training. Last edited by basegreen; 21st November 2006 at 14:12. |

I tried RC2 on my test rig at home, was not at all impressed.
Funny thing is, I'm scheduled to attend some outside training in December, Implementing & Maintaining Windows Vista... should be good for 5 days loafing |

I've had it downloaded and tried converting my main work PC to use it but within half a day I had to go back.
The problem is that the main release for Vista isn't out until Jauary so all the tools I need to do my job won't be available until then either. I think i'll try upgrading my home PC and see how that goes |

Well that was pretty painless.
The install has some stages that have no progress indicator, and setup seems to sit there for a while, but otherwise no problems with the install itself. Download speeds seem to be drastically reduced but, rather oddly, ADSLGuide's speedtest still shows normal 10Mb throughput. Hopefully some non-beta drivers will be released soon, as well as Vista updates for all my progs. Desktop is nice though, particularly the thumbnails of screens on the task bar. The semi transparent windows are a nice touch too. Colours seem more vibrant, though that could just be due to everything being brighter anyway. |

You've gotta love that Winkey+Tab instead of using Alt+Tab, especially when you can see movie clips still playing in that 3D view
I put the full Ultimate on my main machine yesterday but had to go back to XP due to Call of Duty 2 not being able to use EAX sound under Vista - Vista has basically screwed EAX games Shame cos it's nice. |

As anyone played with the voice recognition?
I am dictating this message, its absolutely stunning! I've not played with voice recognition for years! It seems to have come on in leaps and bounds You can just talk normally and your words appear on the screen like magic! I Sound like a bit of an advert for Microsoft |
