A day when everything goes wrong?

[vent mode]

Do any of you have days like this?
  • My tomtom comes back unrepaired, after 3 weeks. Even collecting the thing took UPS 2 days to find my house.
  • My Honda dealer calls, and my DECT phone dies - just catch the call on another phone.
  • They cheerily ask about my level of satisfaction from my recent service, so I tell them about the 8" scratch it has gained on a door, the rattle they never fixed and the wonky door that it has been waiting for (since delivery) that was also not fixed, with another long wait in store.
  • I then get a water bill for £1260, despite having reported a leak a year ago, so phone them up again and they know nothing about the 2 engineer visits I've had, so I have to phone operations, who also know nothing, who tell me to phone billing again, which I do, get cut off after 10 minutes, phone back, and after 5 minutes of waiting...
  • My BT phone line goes dead. Report it to BT, who aim to deal with it before May 08, but I can check progress on the website, which I do a couple of times until their website spews nothing but database errors.
  • But some good news - the ADSL part of my phone line still works, so I can SKYPE, except that the brand new Skype Dualphone 3088 I use came with a non functioning charger, that I had to send back a couple of days ago.
Why can't people just sell stuff that works, out of the box?

Sorry to hear! Was just discussing today how disappointed I am with my online shopping experience this year - trying to avoid the shops yet almost every website lately has sent me an email in the past week to say they have no stock and there's no guarantee of delivery before Xmas!!!

Argos completely stuffed up my Nintendo Wii pre-order, I was supposed to get it on release day (last Friday) - in the end I managed to source 2 x Wii's from a tiny Blockbuster store in Peterlee of all places!
Called Argos to cancel my order when I got home, they tried to tell me I couldn't at this stage, I asked for the Manager, they cancelled my order - I put the phone down and the delivery from Argos arrived ???!!!

Play.com (Nintendo Wii) accessories are all out-of-stock yet I can walk into a GAME store and buy them over the counter, HMV just told me yesterday that the DVD I ordered 2 weeks ago may not come... walked into HMV in my lunchbreak just now and bought it over the counter.

I've spent the last 3 days cancelling all my online "delayed" orders after easily going into the shops to buy these items....

It's ok - it was just a bad moment! So far all my Christmas shopping has been fine, though it is all with Amazon and I find them to be pretty reliable (and very clear with their shipping dates and instructions).

Jobo - the thread warms up.... Are you not going to add some festive fervour by displaying your delightful delivery?

Pottsy, I don't think you should be encouraging me! Can't say which shop or which store - but nothing tacky or adult!!!!

Well, Pottsy sounds like a typical day for me, It is a very rare day indeed that something doesn't go wrong in my world lol.

Nearly everything I buy has to go back for one reason or another, I am known as Trauma Tracy at work and it is a standing joke when things go wrong for other people that it must be because they have spent too much time with me

Hey i hope my being on here hasn't affected you

real world

The trouble is everybody is expecting things to work first time and get what you pay for
Well it would be nice

I spend my whole life in these cycles of dealing with things that do not work correctly.

Take SKY HD. My box is playing up, but even getting it installed was a nightmare as the local phone lines are so poor that there's barely enough voltage to make the "call home" to authorise the installation. (oddly enough it works well enough on their premium services, ie Sky Boxoffice, or voting etc)...

So what to do - I could get them out to swap boxes, but the call might not work (usually takes 30 or so goes) and it all depends on the engineers patience.

I'm on my second Sky HD box. They came last week to swap the first one --- and the second one is worse still. They are coming tomorrow with the third. Happy days.
Are the HD boxes made in the same factory as Honda Civics !!! Only joking. Only joking. Put the gallows away !!

Think I'll stick to buying books and Lego for presents then! Sounds a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle than buying these expensive gadgets which don't work!

Do you know if they need to make the callback when they swapped the box out?

They shouldn't need to make the callback at all, it is possible for them to manually activate your box.
If you have Sky Sports or Movies then the callback is needed to pair the box with the card.
