My company only allows me to drive petrol, so have to check with the budget in 2010

Probably a civic will better match the budget though...

Maybe tyres are a bit too wide to drive safely in winter ?

Jest you not - Honda came over to Europe, joined up with Rover, saw the MG EXE, Rover weren't taking it forward and hey presto - they copied it!!!!
