Well yes, rather like Orange Broadband, and Talk Talk, they've been overwhelmed by people using the service. You're also subject to limitations of service (may or may not be an issue for you).

Given your recent track record, I would definitely give them a miss. If you don't mind paying for it, I would go with a better ISP myself. I personally use a local business-oriented ISP which works well for me.

My brother had it for about a week, and could only use it for 6 and quarter hours within that full week - it was shockingly awful.

Needless to say, he told them where to stick it.

Shame really, as the product has the potential to be great, but is just so terrible.

Thanks - maybe I will give BT a go I have heard good things about them, although they are one of the more expensive ones.

I've had no connection issues at all but I do really only use it for Xbox gaming.

My brother uses his connection for the 'net and he's been ok too.

i have personally had no problems with my orange broadband, the free calls are good too.

i work for bt and would not recommend it to anyone, i know i only hear about the bad cases but i would personally never get it, saying that, the in laws have it and have never had any problems but as BG says with your track record i wouldnt take any chances.

why are you changing from your current provider?

They are useless, it keeps disconnecting, saying it cant find the modem it wont download anything without disconnecting, I cant view videos etc as it gets stuck after a few minutes and I am constantly having to log in and out of things because they get stuck!!! Enough said lol

Right ok, as i say its up to you but it really depends on your line, most providers have to use the BT line so if it is the line that is fooked then all providers that use said line will be crap.

this one seems to be a bit of a hit and miss doesn't it......

My wife's cousin has not long had one of BT's 'Homehub' wireless modems installed, and has been nothing but delighted with it so far.......

As for my brother, he went back to the Blueyonder service he had before the Sky fiasco, and is totally chuffed with what he gets from them too.......

Swings and roundabouts then I guess, but from my personal opinion, the only 2 to stay well clear of is Sky and Supanet - both crap in the highest order!

I've been with Pipex now for about 3 years.

Never had a problem.

I've referred a few of my colleauges and they've never had any problems either. It's like everything, you get what you pay for.

BT are probably as good as anyone in terms of broadband. There's also eclipse, pipex that are fairly respected names.

Think I am with Demon, no problems to date, not my choice just given it for work... Heard good things about Pipex, the speed of their connection is often way over what you are paying for. If I recall I think with Eclipse (certainly business users) you can pay to increase your official download speed by the hour or half day or something.

I am with BT and the Home hub thing. I had a few problems to start with but now it works fine. Unfortunately the support is from India and it's crap.

I was pulling my hair out the other night my brother has just moved house and was having problems getting his broadband up and running so i popped round to have a look.

Ending up phoning them (India call centre), informed them before we started that i was an IT expert and knew what i was doing and explained everything that i had done. The line went silent and she proceeded to say "can you tell me what lights are lit on the modem, now can you see the power lead on the back of the modem can you take this out and plug back in after 30 secs, are the lights on now?"

But what really done me was her trying to tell me how to check what a main BT socket was against an extension socket, turned out when they checked the MAC code that the wrong line had been activated instead of my brothers one.

These companies will provide an impersonal service until they've saved a few quid and then go the other way to get the business back plus more.
