Just bought cheap runabout

Just bought a cheap runabout with full ticket for £450-how cheap is that ?

The car starts, runs and stops very well indeed (so far). Mileage is 42k. Not sure if that's possible ('99 T plate !) 5 door hatchback for runs to Wickes and the tip - great !

My word that is cheap, almost disposable.

What is it?

Wow. I have a '100' search on autotrader. - <100k, <100 miles away, <10 years old, <£1000. It's a good game. You don't get much in there apart from Ford Kas, Mondeos, Citroens...

Daewoo maybe?

42k 99 plate, sure it's not gone round the clock at that price lol.

Still a bargain though!

Thought some of you regular guys might be curious. Actually wanted a jazz, but that was never going to happen really for less than a grand.

The car's a Fiesta. Wondering if it was some sort of sporty model in its day with Ford alloy wheels, a lip spoiler above the tailgate and white dials/rev counter. No wonder the insurance was so crazy for something worth so little ! (regarding the indicated 42k miles, could likely be 142k, though the driving seat is in good condition and also the paintwork is pretty much 'scab free'- some kind of vintage ford bright red-oh well can't have everything)

I got a jazz for £1400. Back seats fold down so it's like a little van. Service history and mileage is a bit suspect but it's been ok for 3 months so far. It's a piece of **** green colour too

Seems awfully expensive for a Fiesta...

I think the Fiesta is the number 1 selling car in the UK, so perhaps the low cost is due to a large volume in the second hand market.

Decent wee runabout.

I got a 2002 dark blue Jazz one owner with less than 6k miles just over a year ago with full Honda service history for under a grand...everything ever done was done at same dealership including MOTs! Great wee runner only done tyres and exhaust since got it and had my mate who has detailing company to give it some attention and it came up superb

Either way at £450 if you get a year hassle free motoring and scrap it for £50 it has cost you £400 for the year. Just ask yourself how much you will loose on you car in a year with depreciation never mind anything else? With this in mind it is what it is which is simply cheap no frills motoring on a budget and if it passes the MOT with no hassle the odds are this time nest year you will still get £400 for it

Yes all very true. For the last 10, probably 15 years, car ownership has cost me an average minimum £1500 per year in depreciation alone. Certainly not complaining, but occasionally to me it's refreshing to have something cheap and cheerful.

Bit wistful I know but there's something about the 'honesty' of an old motor still quietly going about its job.

I did similar with a 2001 ford focus, 60 odd k on the clock (all paperwork to confirm) was a temporary car whilst waiting for something to pop up, 3yrs on I ended up keeping it as a winter/mileage clocker.
Cheap runarounds are brilliant fun & very handy to have, I'm currently in Norfolk & left the FK2 behind & chose the focus for the 2 & half hr journey as its more comfortable
