I bought my hd box off ebay and at the time saved myself the £60 installation fee by switching the wires myself, the only time the engineer should have to come out is if you have a standard sky box..hope this helps. |

One of the HD boxes had a problem whereby if you pressed for a reminder for a particular programme, it did remind you, but it also started to record as well.
This latest box is the best so far, and the picture on our Panasonic 42" is great. |

When I've had a problem, a Sky engineer has called within two days with another box. As I've already said, this latest box is behaving itself. Touch wood !!.

Proper regular HD isn't due to be screened until 2012, will these boxes last 'til then? "When you reach 60, something horrible happens to music!" Charles H. |

I believe he means on more than the current 9/10 channels. I have had HD since Christmas and the best feature is the huge hard drive and the fact that regular TV takes next to no space up. HD files must be huge as they demolish the space ! The pic quality on HD is great but doubt its worth the expense, but I like my gadgets which is why I got the EX

BTW, it is really easy to upgrade a normal Sky+ box with a bigger hard drive; they are standard PC equipment. It took me about 10 minutes, and is well worth the £60 or so for a hard drive. |

Yes you're right, just 9-10 channels mostly showing repeats.
Sounds an expensive way of enjoying yourself, assuming that the HD box doesn't pack up! Got a 42" screen and that is impressive in its self! Just gotta wait 'til 2012 for HD now. "Your birthday is just the first day of yet another 365 day journey around the sun. Enjoy your trip!" Charles H. |

Thing is, I had a 32" CRT that took up most of the space in my lounge.
The 42" just hangs on the wall and looks great too! As for the technology, the current HD sets are not 'fully HD' as yet, as they would be unable to display the potential that HD will have to offer when it's truly up and running. The current designed potential for HD is around twice the quality of the existing transmissions. So even I will have to trade in later. "I've decided to live forever, or die in the attempt!" That's a very good and valid point Charles - the quality that Sky HD puts out at the moment is 1089i (basically upscaled 740 pictures), and not the 'true HD' 1089p.....
This I'm sure, is mainly becasue film makers have not yet had the chance to actually film in 1089 with HD cameras....... I have however now seen the difference between 1089i and 1089p though using my new Playstation 3 (acquired on a recent trip to the states!!) through my cousin's HD ready Plasma, and I can confirm that the visible difference between 'i' and 'p' is..............none! |

I reckon that 1080P IS the way forward for HD, but it won't be ready 'til 2012.
So to get your money in now, 1080i has been introduced to relieve your pockets of some of that spare cash. Shame the current available HD output is so limited! "I suffer from 'old age'. I've got a rocking chair, but just can't get it going!" Charles H. |
