Gun control - William Shatner

Probably his best commercial ever...

Made me laugh out loud.

Well - some parts of the States DO have 'gun issues' - but, on balance, I'm on the side of the "guns don't kill people, people do" ! ...

Norway & Switzerland have perhaps the highest % of legal gun ownership in the World, and virtually no gun crime, other than that committed with illegal \ forbidden guns ...

In the USA, at least prior to some recent changes in legislation, the area with the highest ratio of gun crime, was Washington DC - which had an absolute total ban on private gun ownership ! ...

On the other hand, the various mid-west States that permit unlimited "open carry" and have "must issue permits for concealed carry" laws, had the lowest % ...

Not that - in the USA - 'low' is what Europe would mean - but, then it's a cultural thing there ...

Just look at the UK - after that maniac shot up a School in Scotland some years ago, private handgun ownership was totally banned (even the Olympic pistol team have to practice abroad !) - result ? - gun crime has climbed steadily thereafter - only the criminals have guns ...

I've written this before, but just 100 years ago (in the UK), you could walk into your friendly local gunshop and shop until you dropped, and people did NOT shoot each other - in fact, you could also walk into the chemist next door, and buy all the coca \ opium \ cannabis \ etc. that you wanted, and nobody thought anything about it !!! ...

I've always been a big believer that we should all be allowed to own a gun to defend ourselves and our homes.

Like JDR said, it's just the criminals who have the guns, which puts the average law abiding citizen at a complete disadvantage. Of course, anyone breaking into my house will have to contend with my samurai sword collection, and my rather large axe, but even then I could quite easily be the one who ends up in the dock, even if they were carrying a weapon.

Laws in the UK regarding "reasonable force" are totally skewed. Any place where a criminal can sue somebody for injuring themselves whilst breaking into their house is just effed up and wrong.

I totally disagree. The thought of anyone being able to go into a gun-shop and purchase a handgun of their choice, fills me with dread.

JDR, 100 years ago, the UK was a totally different place to what it is now.
Would you like to live in Mexico right now ?.

Well, basically, you can here! - just join a gun club, get a police permit (rarely refused for the sane and law-abiding) - install an approved gun cabinet - buy the gun from your local sports or gun shop …
