close call with the police
last night i had a close shave with the police.
i had been out and about 2 hours ago had 2 double vodkas and coke, think i was under the limit when i went home, i never have driven after drinking before at all. anyway overtook a van, then saw the police in front, they slowed down to 30 in a 60, i sort of knew what they were doing but still didnt want to overtake a police car. bit further they pull over, follow, flashing lights etc, im thinking f***k i said i didnt want to voertake a policer car etc, you can see wherei m coming from - at first they were like no - i turned off engine put hazards on, offerd my license straight away, they asked dob etc and luckily they were nice and let me go but if they had breathalised could of been dodgey very relieved to say the least |

So do you think that driving under the influence of alcohol is acceptable.
You obviously thought you might be over the limit, WTF did you still get in the car. The drink driving limit in this country should be slashed to the 'Transport Workers' limit of 30mg, or even 0mg. This should get the message over that even a small amount of alcohol is dangerous. |

Drinking and driving , not a wise thing to do! You could have killed someone. The amount you drink isn't the issue as any alcohol is bad. The basic rule of thumb is two units but as you clearly had four you would be over the limit.
Perhaps you'll learn and not drink and drive again; Taxi's are really cheap. |

Scott,
A lesson learned I think, I'm not gonna pass judgement as we have all done foolish things when where young (and old!). The only thing I would say is, I personally would not have wrote the post and kept it to myself! |

Thanks Scott for saying that.
It's so easy to say 'I don't Drink and Drive' But so many, too many, people still do. The occasional tipple will sometimes topple, and leaving possibly a lifetime of regret. Thanks for your addmission Scott. We all need a lesson sometimes. "The only reason I wear glasses is for the little things in life, like driving Millie, or even finding her!" Charles H. |

Not when you are having to use them for a whole year.
I am not going to pass judgement on you, I think the fact that you posted that means you have learnt a lesson, hopefully a positive one. The one thing you need to learn and admitting on a public forum is not the best place to do it, you drink Vodka & Coke, I would have kept that to myself, replaced it for a couple of pints of Mild. Stay safe, we've had people get their cars bent, scratched etc. but we don't need our first CivInfo ban. (or worse). |

i think i would have been just ok because it had been a while, and i knew that i was ok to drive, honest
as i said never have drunk at all before - but temptation gave in first thought was - its a sign lol - i must admit i doubt ill be doing that anytime soon if at all again lol not in my defence but you should see the state of some people my age - some smoke weedand get completely drunk and then drive - now that is really dangerous in my defence i was under full control and i knew they might pull me over for following them at 30 but i didnt really want to overtake a police car anyway oh well done now - lessen learnt |

About the above comment, I'm pretty sure every person who has ever got into a car while under some influence of alcohol and then crashed because of it would have said that, too. The thing with drink is it effects your judjement, not only with driving etc, but this kind of judjement, too. I'm glad you didn't get into any trouble and that you got home safe |

If you've learnt your lesson ,well done. Just ignore any pressure from your "mates" to drink when driving. The consequences could be catastrophic. Good on you for sharing it with us.

If you don't drink very much and had two double vodkas and cokes I think you're driving would have been quite seriously impaired. I think you're extremely foolish to attempt this and in all seriousness you're very lucky not to have been arrested and disqualified.

CP, I think if he'd had the drink just before he was pulled, the police would have smelled it -- as you know, thats the reason for the "little chat".
So probably the drink had been consumed earlier in the day. |

they thought because i overtook someone but didnt overtake them i was drunk - but i wasnt about to overtake a police car just in case - at first they were a little cold, when i said you ve got to see where im coming from and they were like no - but then they loosened up and i was polite and so were they.
tbh it has more effect letting me off than if i had been fined as im a trustworthy guy and go on word, if they had banned me or something or breatalised me i would have just got anoyed and not really taken anything they said seriously - if you sort of get what im trying to say |

Scott, I would imagine you were over the driving limit on two double vodkas. Bear in mind that it also depends on food intake, body size and how tired you are as to how alcohol can affect you. I only need one small drink and it goes straight to my head as I don't drink very often.
But I don't understand why you say you would have got annoyed with them and not taken them seriously if they had breathalysed you, I think you should count your lucky stars that they didn't and you got home in one piece. |

I have read the above posts with interest. Searching Google - I found the following :-
http://www.80mg.org.uk/guide.html As TC says, determining how alcohol will effect you will differ from person to person - though, the above site recommends that men should not consume more that 4 units immediately before driving. Excess of this runs the risk of being over the legal limit. The following .gov link states that a small double measure of Spirits = 2 units http://www.knowyourlimits.gov.uk/units.html Considering this, I would think that Scott was a lot closer to the legal limit than he thinks he was. I agree with the consensus, you appear to have been very lucky, Scott. |
