mid life crisis?

couldn't justify swapping the 2.2 EX for an R, so went for this instead

2nd hand Scott MC-40 with loads of upgraded bits
AND it was a good excuse to try the 'does a bike fit in a Civic?' trick (it does, easily)

You may have some kind of crisis by the looks of that saddle

Nice! First off-roader?

As an aside the green bike in the Civic catalogue is a Specialized FSR XC. They were only made in that colour for demo bikes.

Can you actually ride with the saddle so high, must be some sort of contortionist.

Reminds me of a line from a very old Yellow Pages advert "I were right about that saddle!"

First one in a long time
Used to have a Giant carbon framed CF-1 back in the day, but that went west with the divorce
Started poking round and reading bike mags whilst being laid up sick over the last few weeks, and realised how much things had moved on!

Some ebaying followed, and (bizzarely) having not noticed the FSR in the Civic catalogue had actually set my heart on a FSR or a Big Hit

Then went down to my local bike shop (tredz) on Saturday, and got hooked on a Scott RST 25 / 15...

And then this MC-40 came up on ebay, from a bike mechanic at a small bike shop just 2 miles from home that I didn't even know existed...
Sold!

LOL it's the photo from the ebay ad
actually a small frame, but the owner was 6ft - I've dropped it a fair bit to fit my slightly shorter size

Only thing I need to do now is work out how to swap the (hydraulic) brakes round - it's set up with left hand front brake, right hand back...
Think I might take it back to the shop and watch and learn

Hi TTdegs, Looks good nick for second hand. I bought my Specialized FSR second hand last year, definately a mid life crisis thing. I try to get out onto trails at least once a week. The Civic is the ideal car to own as a mountainbiker as it is so easy to fit the bike in with those magic rear seats!

Sound like you were meant to have this bike
Enjoy your crisis, and don't forget your protective 'do das', you are a bit more fragile than you used to be

It took some fast talking with the missus too

I haven't quite got round to pointing out the extra I'm going to need to spend on dooda protection yet... but that will (hopefully! ) be an easier sell

Or not, depending on how good you've been to her recently

Helmet, glasses, gloves and padded shorts. Specialized make the lot, and they're hard to beat in my humble opinion. Helmets are a lot cheaper and better vented these days.

Hopes are a doddle to re-hose (as are most). easier for the shop to do of course (and avoids any contact with DOT fluids). Best to put new hose on as the runs are different lengths from each side. You don't want to have a short front hose, especially.

The second reason for getting a Civic was the Magic Seats. I'm sure loads of cyclists are drawn to the spaceship by them. As I posted elsewhere, I didn't see any at a triathlon 2 weeks ago though.

And my Stumpy says 'Hi'

'fraid I've only a Specialized Hardrock, spent all my money on my road bike. 17.5 lbs of Specialized lovelyness. I only need to loose about a stone to make it all worthwhile!. And yes bike carrying ability made a larger than should be normal contribution to my decision to buy the Civic.
