Father-of-three as well Very sad, hope they catch the thief - I'll gladly shoot the bullet to his head.

1/Install one of these. (see link below)
2/When they drive off, walk back in to to the house.
3/Get the Baseball Bat.
4/Walk to the end of the road and wait for them to get out! If they don't, await the Police (if you have 30 mins!). Much cheaper for the public purse not to wait!

My heart goes out to the family that the Bas**rd will probably only get community service! Bring back public stoneing.

Its a sad world when we have to consider installng 'Anti Hi-jack' systems, hear of people being prosecuted for defending their property because they used too much force, children being sold drugs etc etc. What happened to the days when others respected you and your property?

Off my soap box now.

This is one of the reasons I electrified my garage door so I don't have to get out of the car to open or close it.

There are loads of opportunist thieves who wait for you to get out of your car, engine running, to close the garage door.

Tragic story. But never leave your keys in the car. It makes it easy for these scum bags.
I lock my car while I pay at the filling station.

Our new automated garage door is being fitted in July as my wife is always jumping out of the car to open the current manual door with the engine running. She reckons I worry to much, but it does happen. Better to be safe than sorry.

I always lock my car door when paying for petrol at the booth as well.

I've had my electric up and over door for about 3 years now and I wouldn't be without it.

It's also double secure because once I cut off the power to the garage it is locked solid via the elctric motor and chain.

No outside handles or controls on mine.

I think the "Human Rights Brigade" would jump on that one. They would say your not being fair to the criminal.

I used to work in a petrol station when I was a teenager. I remember some guy's car was stolen off the forecourt while he was inside the shop paying for his petrol because, of course, he left the keys in the ignition
