Look out for the 'Friendly Fire!

AMERICANS!

The following is the actual transscript of an actual radio conversation between a US Navy ship and the British autorities, off the Northern Scottish coast.

The transcript was released by the MoD on 10/10/95.

BRITISH : Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid collision.

US Navy: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

BRITISH:
Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to theSouth to avoid a collision.

US Navy : This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

BRITISH : Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.

US NAVY : THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIEDBY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. WE DEMAND THATYOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, THATS 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR
COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

BRITISH : We are a lighthouse. F**k off.

There have been quite a few variations on this even though its authenticity has been questioned.

Still funny though

I think that link is to what is known as dis-information.
Simply the US Navy trying to deny that this happened.
Donīt believe everything you read on line.

Fantastic Story. I thought that the Swedish where better at parking than that ! LOL

I drove from Gothenburg to Stockholm and back a few years ago. The only car related items I saw attached to polls, where Saab Fighter planes ! Didn't see any exotic cars though!

I heared this report a long time ago. It is a classic example of how urban myths can grow and grow. When I heared it, it was an Aircraft Carrier, but it was a lightship on the other end of the radio. With the Technology onboard of an Aircraft Carrier, do you think for a moment that they would be more than a couple of feet off location! They would also be fully aware of the location of every static lighthouse and lightship!

I agree but, you would think that an AEGIS missile cruiser would be able to differetate between an attacking aircraft and an airliner before firing its missiles and downing it wouldn't you. This was also a US Navy incident.
