Air guns

Having been a keen competitive shot in my long gone youth... I have been granted permission to keep our huge rabbit population from feeding on the plants and veg in the garden by means of an Air Arms TX200 Mk3:

tx-rhweb.jpg

How things have moved on since I were a lad! This is an inexpensive spring gun, and yet I can do groups like I have never done before. Here is my first target (20 yards), used to sight the scope (two groups of five shots):

Does anyone else here do this kind of thing, or is it the preserve of slightly strange, possibly size-challenged people who wear lots of camouflage to the shops?

I still have a .22 BSA Lightning with Bushnell TeleSight in the house somewhere, but I have not shot it in years. BSALightningSmall.JPG

Hi Pottsy,

You couldn't have chosen a better sprung rifle (IMO) available currently..

AFAIK, the only sprung rifle more accurate, is an old Air Arms TX200SR (semi-recoiless), but they havn't been available for the last 10 years or so... (I have one, I'ts now wotrh more than when I bought it !) The SR was partially banned by FT clubs for being too accurate, and was put into a class with pre-charged.. This meant it was no advantage to Air arms to continue with the sliding mechanism, and they simplified the rifle to make the current TX200.

A very good choice for target, or bunny work! The spring and trigger mechanism is such that there is no sideways twang, as the release is in the centre of the spring, rather than at the side.

A good grouping like yours is typical, but does also show you have a steady hand!

You might also think about getting a solid single piece sight mount, which can withstand everyday knocks better..

I bought my BSA with an Airspring Upgrade fitted, which reduces the kick associated with springers. It is also a no maintenance option, as springs tend to compress with time and loose power. I think at the time, it was an extra £50 fitted!

Not quite that sort of thing - but shoot clay pigeons regularly (shotgun) - and have a .22 air rifle (older Wierauch).

My tx200sr has had about 3000 shots throuh it, it's about 11 years old, original spring, and can still show nearly 12ftlb !

I used to be a member of the GB Junior Rifle team and British Schools rifle team. Still have my Anschutz .22 cartridge rifle and Feinwerkbau compressed air rifle. They used to shoot lovely groups . Spent many a day at the Eley factory in Brum bench testing!

At least i'm not alone... A .22 Theoben Rapid 7 sits in my gun cabinet alongside an FAC (meaning held on Firearms certificate) Daystate LR90 in .177 with which I have had 10 shot groups within a 5p piece at 50 yards. Bunnies stand no chance and is a nice alternative to buying factory farmed chicken!

I have had various shotguns and rifles over the years and use to enjoy full bore pistol shooting until it was banned. I now only have air powered guns, currently an AirArms S410 carbine fitted with a BAR carbon fibre silencer (Absolutely superb) in .177, Falcon FN8 WG air pistol in.22. Use the rifle for magpies, rats and target shooting, the pistol for rats and target shooting/plinking.

I am affraid my FAC is for target shooting only. Besides, I think the Anschutz is a little on the heavy side for anything else!

Off topic slightly, is it wrong to have a thing about Delia?
