I'm off to Budapest for the weekend
First time in Hungary. Looking forward to it. Except the heat. I'm told it will be 40 degrees centigrade. Pheew! How do you cope in there all summer? Climate control in your Civics must be doing it's job pretty well.
Well, anyway, any tips or places I should visit? Or we to be more exact. Me and my wife will be staying at a Hilton in Budapest. It's our sixth anniversary. Oh and we've bought a guide book, so we know of the most famous places... |

I'm sure you'll love it; I've been to Budapest three times and rate it as my favourite European city after Berlin.
Make sure you spend a few hours in the "castle district", which sits high above the Danube in Buda, not far from the Chain Bridge. The huge former Royal Palace now houses the excellent national art gallery. The nearby Matyas Church is also a major attraction. The Parliament building across the Danube on the Pest bank is also worth a look. Also worthwhile is a trip on the quaint underground our to Heroes' Square, deep in Pest, and if you can handle it in the heat, a hike up the massive Gellert Hill in Buda for a walk round the Citadel and stunning views across the city. My favourite pastime in Budapest though has simply been wandering the banks of the glistening Danube between the Chain and Liberty bridges: it's such an picturesque city, and spending freely in the great bars and restaurants. I wouldn't fancy driving my Civic on those cobbles though. |

The Parliament building was stunning, especially as the sun was setting. Quote:

Me neither. And what's with all the Suzuki Swifts in Budapest? Maybe it was our taxi driver, but the traffic in Budapest seemed at times worse than Bangkok... |
