LCD screen repair / fix?

Anyone out there got a clue about LCD screens?

My Dell 1703 works fine - for a split second at a time, then goes blank
Power light is still green, and if I turn it off and back on, I can see my PC desktop - for a split second until it goes blank again.

Tried it with a few input sources, both VGA and DVI, and also with no input at all (the self test screen comes up for a split second then).

Any ideas please?

Thank you!

Ah - I had that on my work hp1530.

They came and took it away for repair and a few weeks later arrived with a brand new hp1740 because the old unit was beyond repair.

Not the news you wanted to hear I suspect ?

Really doesn´t sound like anything you can fix yourself I´m afraid.

Have you switched it off, left it switched of for a minute, then back on
If this didn't help, have you tried kicking it or hitting it.

Wise words from foggy's book on how to repair delicate electrical objects.

There is a small circuit in all LCD computer screens called an 'invertor', sometimes detachable and replaceable. It boosts the voltage to the luminescent sheet behind the display, and can be quite dangerous if touched whilst switched on!
If this bit goes, then you get the same sort of effect that you are describing, a bit like a blown starter on a flourescent tube
