Rubber Stop Strip
Does anyone know where to get a length of rubber strip that can be stuck to the garage floor so as to indicate when the car has driven in far enough to clear the door coming down? I'm sure I've seen an adhesive 'peaked' or 'domed' strip for this purpose.
PS: I guess something like a rubber threshold strip may well do the job. It just needs to be raised slightly so as you can 'feel' it as the front tyres bump against it. Last edited by allan40alt; 27th August 2007 at 11:00. Reason: added PS: |

I thought of the 'tennis ball' but preferred the floor strip idea. A rubber strip 40mm wide x 8mm high should give enough of a 'feel' and I could cut it to length. It's for my wife's side of the garage as she drives in, wereas I reverse in and my sensors give me a 'contiuous' beep at just the right position. |

It's just dawned on me; the perfect product.....cable protector. It's what's used to carry cables across roads, paths etc to prevent them being damaged.
It comes in a variety of sizes. My local City Electrical Factors should have some. I can cut it to length and fix it to the floor. Problem sorted. Ps: This is similar: Heavy-Duty Cable Protectors Pps: Just found some on ebay: 900mm RUBBER CABLE PROTECTOR BS476 part 7 CERTIFIED NEW on eBay, Test Measurement Equipment, Electrical Test Equipment, Business, Office Industrial (item 260126155058 end time 04-Sep-07 15:37:37 BST) Last edited by allan40alt; 27th August 2007 at 20:29. I've got a couple of strategically placed bricks that serve the purpose.
Unfortunately, I can't get out of the car once it's in the garage so I don't need the parking guide much! I guess that cars were much narrower when the previous owner built the garage in the late sixties. Anybody got a Ford Anglia they want to swap? - KIDDING!!! |

As I am already the owner of 2 pavia blocks (sounds better than 'house bricks' don't you think) I thought that I'd give that idea first try as it's the cheapest!

Used to use a tennis ball hanging from the roof, which worked well.
Now, have a 2" x 1" strip of wood, lying across the garage floor (not fixed down), and this also works fine - Don't think the paint on the bumper would take too kindly to hitting the pedal of my mountain bike which is sitting against the back wall of the garage! |

Bearing in mind I have parking sensors on the back of my car, I do the following. When I think I'm there, I stop, put the car into reverse, press the remote for the garage door and when it shuts, the bleeps shouldn't be continuous....

I reverse my Civic in and when the sensor note is continuous I know the front is in far enough for the sectional door to come down. My wife parks her 206 next to me, but drives in.
This means she either drives too close to my workbench and I can't get to my reserve wine rack which is behind my Civic, or she parks with the back too far out, and the door will hit it. The pavia blocks seem to work Ok. |
