3rd party sat nav
Looking for any advice on a good 3rd party sat nav for my wife's Jazz, she's well impressed with the unit in the civic and wants one in her car!
Not looking to spend more than £500 and the Jazz doesn't have a DIN-E stereo slot so the flash fold out units are out!! So let me know your recommendations good or bad |

Used a Dell palm computer with TomTom loaded for about 4 years prior to getting the civ, it worked great and as a bonus you could plan your route while in you house/hotel room or wherever

Like Wooly I currently use a HP iPAQ with a Sysonchip CF GPS card (which I can throughly recommend) and run TomTom 5 and it is very good (although TT5 needs a signal to be able to plan your route). From the brief look at the Civic sat-nav I got from my test drive I would say the actual road representation is better on some of the 3rd party sat nav units eg its more than just one single line. Before I went for the EX I was also looking to get a separate unit in case I went down the ES route for the glass roof. Although not the very latest the Navman ICN520 is going for £190 from Halfords. There are quite a few units reviewed on www.pocketgpsworld.com.

Im using series 60 mobile with navicore and tomtom for mobile. If you have Mobile phone with series 60 platform , it is easy and cheap way to get sat nav.
I had use with Nokia 6600 and Now Nokia N73 and both are superb (IMO) |

Thanks everyone, whilst your suggestions have so far been cost effective, ease of use is probably the over riding criteria, I think the tomtom gear is inching ahead at the 'mo anyone had any bad experiences with tomtom??

Stretch, only positive. Very easy to use on my PDA and can only assume this applies equally to the TT units themselves. The latest top of the range model 910 has widescreen display, bluetooth hands free (that might actually work), 20Gb hard disk with maps for Europe/US/Canada. mp3 player, internal rechargeable battery etc etc for around £450 (or less).

Used the Tomtom with a PDA right up until I collected my Civic with built in. Tomtom is the way to go. Been using it since version2.

if it's ease of use you are after stretch, the I3 couldn't be simpler, best bet is to go into somewhere like Halfords and ask for a demo of the units, never used TOMTOM really, had a play, and it is obviously a good system, but there are other equally good systems (Garmin and NavMan) in particular.
The main reason I chose the I3 over at TOMTOM was ease of use. |
