PM sent with a couple of ideas.

btw, I'm finding that Linkedin is becoming much more common as a recruitment tool. I'm now connected to a number of agents on there who post roles that come up, and I've been contacted by agents carrying out searches of Linkedin profiles looking for people to do specific things. I also use it to keep track of people I know and go to if I'm recruiting and know they are looking.

It would be worth getting a profile on there, as well as making sure your CV is posted on Monster, jobsite and jobserve. I get calls based on people finding my CV through searches there as well.

I've tried everything c.v site search engines. Was out of work for 5 month last year very worried lost around 9k its been a month a half now, lost my job same time last year. Even basic packing work is hard to find now. It does really annoy me how many polish people have jobs, the job centre is absolutely rubbish and does nothing to help people.
If interested/possible check out retained firefighter jobs at Padiham, think they are recruiting at the moment.

Agreed. I've been on there a couple of months now and have been offered 5 jobs already. I've even had people call up the reception where I'm currently working to offer me work.

Sorry to hear about your predicament.... I was very lucky, finished Uni (Masters in Chemistry) in June and ive already been at a full time career job for 2 weeks.

Like you i agree the job centre was useless, i went on the dole for 3 weeks, they didnt find me one position to apply for. In the end applied for 10+ by myself and got a job at a company literally 10 mins walk away, starting at the bottom working with the factory lads but with the view of fast track into the management once i learn the trade (Ink business which i know nothing about)

It is disheartning but keep at it mate.

Got some inspection work last week started Wednesday for 5 days temp contract it's not too bad. It's all practical work, fairly basic but it's not too bad and I'm gaing more practical skills which I haven't got much of. Hopefully the work will drag out a little longer. I'm not too bothered about pay, I'm more looking for the experience to put on my c.v and increase my employability. I find I'm not the fastest to pick things up in jobs but I'm always willing to put the effort in and do every job to a good standard

I also would recommend getting yourself on Linkedin if you're not already on there. You can build up contacts very quickly but be prepared to relocate.

I originally trained as an Industrial Designer, but have done Packaging Design, CAD Engineering and now work in the Video Game industry as a Car Artist. If you want to succeed in a Design role, build up a good portfolio, be prepared to relocate, make as many contacts in multiple different disciplines as you can.

Good luck

This does worry me; as i've just handed my notice in and not yet found furthur work
I know it's foolish but the stress of the job wasn't worth it to me

So i'm currently working notice whilst looking at courses to furthur myself in what i want to do in the long term and looking for employment
A bit messy but it'll resolve itself eventually

I was laid off a couple of years ago after 8 years in the building trade where I had worked since leaving school. I was out of work for six months, The only help I got from the government was £50 per week, not enough to cover mortgage, bills, food etc. After applying for around 100 jobs (of my own back I might add, jobcentre were useless) I got a job working for the NHS as a domestic assistant which led to working as a porter and has since led to me working as a health care assistant which will hopefully lead to me doing my nurse training or community work in the future. If someone told me I would be working in mental health five years ago I would have laughed but now I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Don't give up hope as the smallest opportunity can lead to something very rewarding.

As others have said, Linkedin is a useful tool. If you have skills you can provide over the web/phone then also check out peopleperhour.com.

Register with agencies that specialise in the type of work you do, let them put some of the effort in. Enquire about short term contracts and covering jobs as these can sometimes lead to something more permanent.

Good luck and don't give up!

+1 for Linkedin its a really powerful tool for finding work, I've had jobs offers from all over the world purely from people making contact after searching on it. I agree though be prepared to relocate as you've got to go where the work is.

If you can use AutoCAD there's plenty of work in the oil and gas sector in places like London and Aberdeen. A friend of mine used to be a kitchen fitter and did a short course in AutoCAD, 2 years later he was working in London on £65 an hour just drafting drawings, not designing or engineering anything!

Did you say you were a qualified car designer?
I work for an agency who supplies contract and permanent staff to Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover, etc etc... my main business is oil and gas but would be happy to pass your details onto the automotive guys.
Drop me a PM pal

Oh and unfortunately, there isn't that much work for people in Oil and Gas at the moment without considerable experience, big money with experience but companies aren't really taking trainees and lower levels at the moment.
