And the UK justice system fails once more.

So I know a guy, he's about as stable as a 3 legged chair. Couple of years older than me at 24 and is currently on his third drink driving ban.

First he did a 12 month ban, second he got 15 months and the third he got... 8 weeks.

That'll teach him

That's shocking. I thought they were threatening with taking your car off you if convicted for a second time.

The justice system is a joke anyway. You get more time for stealing than you do for ending someone's life

I've always maintained that if your caught whilst banned you should be forced to wear a locked large right leg device that makes it impossible to drive.

I was thinking along the lines of a sort of mini ankle 'stocks' thing that had a side piece of about 6" so your leg would not fit in the accelerator area. If you tried rotating it then you would not be able to use the brake pedal.

Plus the obvious addition to indicate to others that you are a banned driver subsequently caught.

I'll stop short of suggesting right foot amputation for the worst offenders.

I think some where the wires are crossed as if you look it up. Under uk law all driving ban's are a min of 12 months. The only time it can be adjusted if more than 18 months there is leeway for up to 4 months taken off. The only other way is a drink driving course which cost £175 and that will buy you a not so hefty insurance after your licence is back. I don't drink and drive u read things when bored also we do the course at my work.

That's shocking! One of my pals from home got caught and was banned for a year. Then, was caught in his car (after drinking) but wasn't driving and he was banned for 5 years. Now he's just started driving again and his insurance is sky high....I hope he's learned his lesson now

The problem is that these people ignore driving bans and the need for insurance and just carry on.

As pointed out, they just get a slap on the wrist.

They need a proper deterrent like swapping them out to a Citroen Saxo

if under twice the limit its usually a 12-15month ban if its your first offence, if you re-offend within a ten year period it automatically a 3 year ban then you have a letter from dvla once your ban as expired saying if you wish to re-apply for your licence you must have a medical by a private doctor who the dvla use at your expense and its up to him after he as taken your blood and sent it off for testing whether you get your licence back do it again within 10 years yet again then 5 year ban and possibly jail sentence and a retest.

so i haven't got a clue how he got 15 months for second offence and 8 weeks for third never known it, and how he passed his medical.

Third offense, did he spin a bonus or something.

This is your third strike, I can ban you for 24 months or would you like to spin the wheel for another sentence?

He must have spun 8 weeks.

Pretty abismal tbh.

I wouldn't dare drink drive.

A 3rd time offender surely has no remorse and should be banned for at least 3 years.

I know of someone who went to my old school who was involved in a police chase - he out ran 6 police cars and a police helicopter doing 185 mph on the M1. He then got out of the car and rang a friend to pick him up... as no one answered he got back in the car and drove home and got caught on the way back by a road block.

He only got banned for 18 months and served 2 weeks in prison.

He's back on the road in a few months actually... ha ha

It's like when you see them on interceptors drink driving 100 + mph chases nearly running pedestrians over ramming others off the rd wrong way around the roundabouts then at the end they say £40 fine and 3 points yet you can get worse for a little scuffle on a Saturday night
