almost certainly condensation from the aircon (and on an aside, suggest you ought to use it occasionally, or the seals can dry out, crack, and dump all the coolant at once...)

to check, dip your finger in the water - should just be water
If it feels 'greasy', then it would be more of a worry

welcome aboard

i have dipped and do think its just water - just think aircon is a real con to be honest theres only one or two days a year its needed out the windows down and drive faster
will run it once in a while to stop it clogging / drying up - is it true that hitting the button to do the windows turns the aircon on?
thanks by the way

Is this just condensation from the aircon does anyone else have this happen?
If your coolant level isn't falling you probably needn't worry - it may still be condensation water because on today's cars turning the aircon off isn't really turning it off in many cases, by the way if you don't use the aircon all winter you may be in for a repair next spring because the oil is mixed with the coolant and separates when not used - when you turn it back on after a long time you get way too much friction in the compressor, which then may fail (once happened to me in a Daewoo Lanos)

I leave my a/c on permanently mainly to keep the cabin temp comfortable. I know a lot of people don't bother in the winter but it has it's part to play keeping the windscreen free from misting up on cold or damp days. Not sure how it effects fuel economy but I think on cars with small engines it probably has a greater effect than on say a 2.2 litre diesel.

Always keep my aircons running all winter.
Added fuel cost is marginal compared to rebuild of the system.

Air con is great for demisting in the winter as it de humidifies the air very quickly.
You need to run the air con for about 10 minutes each week so that the gas can lubricate the seals, if not you will have an expensive bill when you come to sell.
Using the aircon in summer is more economic than opening the windows to let fresh air in as the drag caused by opening the window uses more power than having the air con on.
Put the aircon on auto for a week or so, especially at this time of year, and I am sure that you will realise the benefits.

I leave it on auto after testing it on my 2,2 diesel - no noticeable difference in fuel economy (in testing from full tank to empty the result was the same: 7 litres on 100 km, same driving style and weather conditions). I know theoretically it's not possible (due to the additional load of the compressor) but I guess with as much torque as the i-CTDI provides it is really negligible

Puddles of water under the civic..

Yea it's your air-con my 04 accord did the same and I took it to my local Honda garage last year. The workshop foreman came out and took one look at it and assured me it was the air-con. It due to the cool air pipes surrounded by warm air resulting in condensation...It should be dripping down from the centre bulk head area behind the engine. God knows how rusty these areas will get thru time...??

I was also in the US recently and every damn car over there does it when at the lights etc.. You just see motors drippin water all over the place.

I wouldn't worry just keep the air-con in use on a regular basis then sell your motor in a few years before the car cancer seperates the front end from the rest of the motor.

My parents didn't use the air con regularly and then it stopped work... had to get it re-gassed which was quite expensive!

Pool of water?!?!?!

Hello all, tonight whilst reversing out of my parking spot noticed a puddle of liquid where the car had been parked, I used some tissue to wipe some of the liquid to examine and smell - it was clear and odourless? Drove onto M1 to visit parents for the weekend, drove about 60 miles and stopped at a service station where I got a torch out to look underneath the car and I could see liquid dripping onto the ground from directly underneath the engine area - I'm thinking its something to do with the heater/air con system?!?! Some sort of condensation?!?! My last car (a Yaris) tended to deposit liquid when parked up after the air con had been used for a while during hot summers, except that we haven't used the air con on the Civic at all since we bought it just over a month ago, we dont use the Auto function, we tend to have it on a set temp and thats it and have the air circulation mode on for air to come in from outside into the car (we never use the re-circulation mode). Does this sound right? I was going to ring Honda first thing tomorrow morning to make sure....has anyone had anything similar happen to them? (I have Sport diesel, 2006 model)

Hi Chee...

Yea it'll be you air-con or air circulation system. I have the same symptoms with mine. All motors now with air con etc have this result. It's just condensation running off the cooling system for your air-con. It's usually around the bulkhead area and onto the ground.

Don't worry about it...

yep, seconded

Make sure you run it on Auto every now and then, just to keep the seals in tip top shape though, as you don't want them to dry out and crack.

Hi, even if you don't have it on auto the air con is running unless you go in and turn it off, by just taking it off auto it goes into what I call a semi auto.

As soon as you don't notice this "pool" anymore it's time to get your aircon checked (really). It's completely normal. Modern day "ecological gas" aircons tend to run longer without failure when kept "always on". The good thing in the Civic: no noticeable increase in fuel consumption (at least in the diesel) and no influence on power steering at low RPM (which may occur in hydraulic power steering systems but the Civic has an electric one)

Ive noticed water leaking from my drivers (right hand side) exhaust pipe, i looked under the car to see exactly where it was coming from and there seems to be a little bevelled drainage hole " I hope" ... anyone else noticed this?

Its quite normal...However..
You should use your aircon as it will not work properly if not regularly used

The number of times in various cars I've been told that I've got a water leak on a hot day.

Stopped at pedestrian lights and some kind person crossing will point it out to me.
