Water dripping from under the engine after parking up...?

When i went out today after a half hour drive and then parking up for about an hour i returned to the car to find a small amount of water that appeared to have leaked from under the middle of the engine.....(probably half a cup full)

I am pretty sure it was water as no smell to it, but i am concerned that it may be a problem... has anyone else noticed this.... or is it just cooling and coming out of the expansion overflow pipe ?

As its new and i am going to be doing large milage i really dont need it to run out of water...

Its from the Aircon, as you cool air down the amount of water vapour it can hold drops, the water has to go somewhere.

Unless it has the colour of antifreeze, its probably just the condensate from the air conditioner.

Agreed. Most like from air con. My car always leaves a wet patch! I often get a whole line of drips from the car when moving off from my drive.

As pointed out, unless it smells chemically or has a colour tinge, no need to worry.

Is it safe to assume this is your first car with a/c? All cars I know of witrh a/c leave puddles of water...

Mine does it too - living here in Portugal, my Air con gets quite a decent work out, so there's usually a wet patch lurking near my car!!!

The 206 CC had Aircon / climate control and NEVER did this... it had lots of other faults though...so this could just be one more, and it was really annoying so often switched off......

The Air Con was truly rubbish, so maybe it just never worked properly, would not surprise me, even according to Peugeot the scale of 16 - 24 was just a graduated system and did not relate directly to the temperature you would get ??!! So why not make it 1 - 10 or something ??

It did do a similar thing once but the fuel economy also suffered as it was leaking petrol really strong smell.. so good job no-one was smoking...

Thanks again for the prompt re-assurances

Aircon water dumping?

Hi there

I have an 07 CDTi SE, recently after parking i have noticed a stream of water appear under the car when ive parked up and walked back to the car shortly after.

Now i know aircon systems occaisionally dump water from the system, but there seems to be water under the car whenever i stop.

Had a look and its not coming from the engine, and engine coolant levels are fine, temp reading fine etc etc

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Paul

Hello Paulo,

Don't worry, it is normal, it is just the water from the compressor. Mine do that too.

Not just on Civics, normal on any AC car to drop condensation from the compressor.

I first noticed it last weekend, drove 250 km and parked the car. After a few hours I decided to park a few meters down the road and noticed a water trail. Seems pretty normal to me, it's clear condensated water.

Aircon not only cools air, but removes the water. All the time. That's why it's so good to have the aircon on to demist the car.

When ever the aircon is on, water will drip from a little pipe under the car. If ever the water stops, the aircon is faulty!

Only worry when your air-con drops water, then you realise that you don't have air-con!

I'm sick of well meaning old people telling me that my car has a leak.

You also get some water from the exhaust which can leave trails.
A/C water should only be present when you have used the A/C.

Perfectly normal. If your that concerned, you can watch the water come out from under the car when you have the air con on, just look behind the front left or right tyre towards the centre of the car, just behind the metal plate on the undertray...theres a small tube connected to the heater matrix assembly inside, that allows the water thats been drawn from inside the car to be drained!

Water under car

its hopefully nothing but i almost always get a puddle of water under the car - i park on a concrete drive at home so its really noticable and NEVER use the aircon.
Is this just condensation from the aircon does anyone else have this happen?
